Rhodium(II)-Catalyzed Enantioselective Intermolecular Aziridination of Alkenes

Vincent Boquet et al.

Summary: C4-symmetrical dirhodium(II) tetracarboxylates are efficient catalysts for the asymmetric intermolecular aziridination of substituted alkenes with sulfamates. The reaction shows high efficiency and chemoselectivity, yielding aziridines with high yields and enantiomeric excesses. It is applicable to various substituted alkenes and the late-stage functionalization of complex substrates.

Catalytic Intermolecular C(sp3)-H Amination: Selective Functionalization of Tertiary C-H Bonds vs Activated Benzylic C-H Bonds

Erwan Brunard et al.

Summary: This study reports a catalytic intermolecular amination of nonactivated tertiary C(sp(3))-H bonds using substrates with an activated benzylic site to achieve high yields of alpha, alpha, alpha-trisubstituted amides. The synergistic combination of a rhodium(II) complex and tert-butylphenol sulfamate results in selective functionalization of the tertiary C(sp(3))-H bond under mild oxidative conditions. The catalytic system is robust, requiring only 0.01 mol % of catalyst for a 50 mmol scale reaction, and the TBPhs group can be easily removed to obtain NH-free amines.

Cobalt-Catalyzed Intermolecular C-H Amidation of Unactivated Alkanes

Jeonghyo Lee et al.

Summary: Alkanes, as an abundant and inexpensive source of hydrocarbons, are of high interest for conversion into value-added chemicals. Development of new methods for this transformation is challenging due to the inertness of C-H bonds. Electronic modulation of cobalt complexes has led to enhanced amidation efficiency, with secondary C-H bond selectivity observed in nonactivated alkanes under the current protocol.

Enantioselective Intermolecular C-H Amination Directed by a Chiral Cation

Alexander Fanourakis et al.

Summary: The study has developed a family of anionic catalyst variants that enable high levels of enantioselectivity to be achieved in amination reactions. The chiral cations appear to engage in axial ligation to the rhodium complex, providing improved yields of product and highlighting the dual role they play in the reaction.

Origins of ligand-controlled diastereoselectivity in dirhodium-catalysed direct amination of aliphatic C(sp3)-H bonds

Qiannan Li et al.

Summary: The ligand-controlled stereoselectivity mechanism and origins of intramolecular aliphatic C(sp(3))-H aminations catalyzed by dirhodium (Rh2L4, L = OAc, S-tertPTTL) have been explored using DFT calculations. Both catalytic cycles involve the formation of Rh-2 = nitrene radical species, intramolecular H-abstraction, and radical rebound. The origins of diastereoselectivity are revealed through distortion/interaction and noncovalent interaction analysis.

Summary: The electro-catalyzed azidation of inert C(sp(3))-H bonds used sodium azide as the nitrogen source, with mild reaction conditions and no directing group. The mechanism involved aliphatic radical formation and azidyl radical transfer within a manganese(iii/iv) manifold.
