Cupressus arizonica Greene: Phytochemical Profile and Cosmeceutical and Dermatological Properties of Its Leaf Extracts

Nora Tawfeek et al.

Summary: In this study, the phytochemical profile of Cupressus arizonica Greene leaf extracts was analyzed, and it was found that these extracts contained various compounds with antioxidant, anti-aging, and antibacterial activities. The aqueous extract showed significant antioxidant potential and inhibited enzymes related to skin remodeling and aging. It also suppressed biofilm formation and decreased motilities of a common skin pathogenic bacteria. Therefore, C. arizonica leaves can be considered as a promising candidate for skincare application.

Plant extracts, polymers and new approach methods: Practical experience with skin sensitization assessment

Susanne N. Kolle et al.

Summary: In the past decade, several non-animal methods have been adopted as OECD test guidelines to identify skin sensitization hazards. However, the predictive accuracy of these methods for substances beyond the chemical domains of individual validation studies remains largely untested. This study compares the skin sensitization test results from in vitro and in chemico methods to available in vivo data for plant extracts and polymeric materials.

Correlation between the chemical composition and the antimicrobial properties of seven samples of essential oils of endemic Thymes in Morocco against multi-resistant bacteria and pathogenic fungi

Aziz Drioiche et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the chemical composition and antimicrobial activity of three endemic Moroccan species of thyme: Thymus vulgaris, Thymus satureioides, and Thymus zygis. The results showed that the provenance of the plants had an impact on the chemical composition of the essential oils and their antimicrobial properties. Different species and origins of thyme exhibited similarities and differences in their chemical profiles. Thyme vulgaris showed the strongest antimicrobial activity, followed by Thymus zygis and Thymus satureioides.

Skin manifestations of Pseudomonas aeruginosa infections

Nikolaos Spernovasilis et al.

Summary: Pseudomonas aeruginosa is an opportunistic pathogen that can lead to skin infections with significant morbidity and mortality. Recent evidence has shed light on the epidemiology and diagnosis of these infections, which often require systemic antibiotics in order to effectively treat them. Different types of P. aeruginosa skin infections, such as Green nail syndrome and hot tub folliculitis, may require specialized treatment approaches and a multidisciplinary team.

Rhizospheric Phosphate Solubilizing Bacillus atrophaeus GQJK17 S8 Increases Quinoa Seedling, Withstands Heavy Metals, and Mitigates Salt Stress

Ismail Mahdi et al.

Summary: This study isolated phosphate-solubilizing bacteria from the rhizosphere of quinoa and found that some strains demonstrated tolerance to heavy metals and induced biofilm formation. Inoculation of quinoa seeds with certain bacterial strains showed improved germination rate and seedling growth, suggesting their potential use as inoculants for salty and heavy metal or zinc contaminated soils.
