Deep eutectic solvents in liquid-phase microextraction: Contribution to green chemistry

Luana Bastos Santos et al.

Summary: In recent years, there has been a significant increase in the search for green chemistry principles in analytical methods. Solvents play a crucial role in green analytical chemistry, and certain criteria must be met for a solvent to be considered green, including availability, low toxicity, biodegradability, and low cost. However, the availability of green solvents is currently limited. Deep eutectic solvents (DESs) have emerged as a new and promising alternative to traditional solvents, attracting attention for their eco-friendly, inexpensive, and easily obtainable characteristics. This work provides a critical review of the use of DESs in liquid-phase microextraction (LPME) and their contributions to green chemistry.

Simultaneous Determination of Sulfonamides Antibiotics in Environmental Water and Seafood Samples Using Ultrasonic-Assisted Dispersive Liquid-Liquid Microextraction Coupled with High Performance Liquid Chromatography

Yixiao Wang et al.

Summary: Residues and abuse of antibiotics have posed serious threats to ecological balance and human health. Determining antibiotics levels is difficult due to their low levels and multiple categories. Appropriate sample pretreatment is necessary to enrich trace amounts of antibiotics and eliminate matrix interference before chromatographic analysis. Dispersive liquid-liquid microextraction (DLLME) is an ideal pretreatment technique due to its simplicity, effectiveness, and low consumption. In this study, ultrasonic-assisted DLLME (UA-DLLME) was developed for the simultaneous extraction of seven sulfonamides antibiotics in environmental water and seafood samples. The UA-DLLME-HPLC method showed promising potential for multiresidue analysis of antibiotics.

Electrochemical determination of L-tryptophan in food samples on graphite electrode prepared from waste batteries

Zaklina Z. Tasic et al.

Summary: The research aimed to develop a cheap and non-toxic electrochemical sensor for determining a target analyte and reducing electronic waste. The sensor was prepared using a graphite rod from zinc-carbon batteries and was used to detect L-tryptophan in a Britton-Robinson buffer solution. Two electrochemical methods, differential pulse voltammetry and cyclic voltammetry, were employed in the experiment. The pH value of the support solution, scan rate, and L-tryptophan concentration were found to affect the current response. The oxidation of L-tryptophan was determined to be an irreversible two-electron/two-proton reaction controlled by a mixture of adsorption and diffusion.
