A Review of Electrolyte Equations of State with Emphasis on Those Based on Cubic and Cubic-Plus-Association (CPA) Models

Georgios M. Kontogeorgis et al.

Summary: This article reviews the current state of electrolyte equations of state (e-EoS), highlighting the diversity of modeling approaches and the challenges in comparing different models. Electrolyte thermodynamics is a complex and important subject, but there are still unresolved fundamental issues. The review aims to provide insight into the current research status and areas that require further investigation.

Structural characteristics of low-density environments in liquid water

Aswin Muthachikavil et al.

Summary: The existence of two structural forms in liquid water has been a long-standing point of debate. This study proposes using the average angle between oxygen atoms and their neighbors as an order parameter to describe the structural environment of water molecules, and decomposes the distribution of O-O-O angles to estimate the fractions of the two liquid forms in water. The results show good similarity between the estimated fractions of the locally favored tetrahedral structure (LFTS) and the trends reported in the literature, indicating the accuracy of the proposed order parameter in capturing the structure of the LFTS.
