Machine learning assisted prediction of charge transfer properties in organic solar cells by using morphology-related descriptors

Lulu Fu et al.

Summary: This study applies machine learning to predict the energy of charge transfer states and investigates the relationship between this energy and intermolecular packing structures. The effect of pi-packing on charge transport properties is studied through experiments and simulations, and a method to enhance hole transport is discovered.

Potential optical molecular switch: Lithium@cyclo[18]carbon complex transforming between two stable configurations

Zeyu Liu et al.

Summary: Doping lithium atom in the C-18 carbon molecule can effectively regulate its optical properties, with the ability to control the state by switching the Li atom position through an external electric field. The two configurations of Li@C-18 exhibit distinct electronic structures and optical nonlinear properties, making transition easy to occur at ambient temperature.

Unblocked intramolecular charge transfer for enhanced CO2 photoreduction enabled by an imidazolium-based ionic conjugated microporous polymer

Wenling Zhao et al.

Summary: The designed ImI-CMP in combination with Co (II) species shows high CO production rate and turnover frequency under visible light irradiation, attributed to the activation effect of imidazolium motifs and the ultrafast intramolecular photoinduced electron transfer facilitated by pi-conjugation structure and built-in electric field.

White Light from Dual Intramolecular Charge-Transfer Emission in a Silylene-Bridged Styrylcarbazole and Pyrene Dyad

Malgorzata Bayda-Smykaj et al.

Summary: A novel donor-bridge-acceptor compound was synthesized with attractive emission properties in acetonitrile, displaying three different types of emission depending on solvent polarity. The excited-state processes in acetonitrile were analyzed using singular value decomposition with self-modeling treatment, revealing two distinct processes. The design of compounds with multiple excited states emitting over a wide range of the visible spectrum can be a powerful tool in creating new white-light-emitting materials.

The local atomic structure and thermoelectric properties of Ir-doped ZnO: hybrid DFT calculations and XAS experiments†

Andrei Chesnokov et al.

Summary: The study combined DFT calculations and XAS experiments to investigate the local atomic structure around Ir ions in ZnO thin films with different iridium content, and used the results in the analysis of material thermoelectric properties. The research focused on conditions for positive Seebeck coefficient and p-type electrical conductivity as functions of the Fermi level, identifying octahedral coordination of iridium ions as the predominant complex.

Unravelling intramolecular charge transfer in donor-acceptor structured g-C3N4 for superior photocatalytic hydrogen evolution

Chenglu Zhu et al.

Summary: The incorporation of 2-aminobenzothiazole (ABT) into the g-C3N4 framework led to the synthesis of a series of D-A structured photocatalysts with improved performance. The enhanced photocatalytic hydrogen evolution was attributed to the broadened visible light absorption range and accelerated charge carrier separation due to ultrafast intramolecular charge transfer. The boosted performance is closely related to the deliberately introduced D-A structure, which may offer insights for designing analogues with better photocatalytic hydrogen evolution performance.
