Reactions of H2, HD, and D2 with H2+, HD+, and D2+: Product-Channel Branching Ratios and Simple Models

Frederic Merkt et al.

Summary: This study presents measurements of product-channel branching ratios for three reactions at near-zero collision energies. The experimental data are compared with predictions from three simple models, revealing that the branching ratios do not agree with the predictions of the combinatorial and transfer process models, but exhibit correlations with the product state densities.

Vibrational effects in the quantum dynamics of the H + D2+ charge transfer reaction

O. Roncero et al.

Summary: The study investigates the H + D-2(+)(v = 0,1 and 2) charge transfer reaction using a wave packet method and coupled diabatic potential energy surfaces. It finds that the non-reactive charge transfer process is the dominant channel, with the cross section increasing with initial vibrational excitation and its branching ratio increasing with collision energy. Further experimental studies are needed to understand the vibrational effects of the D-2(+) reagents.

Summary: The non-adiabatic quantum dynamics of charge transfer reactions in H + H-2(+) -> H-2 + H+ were studied using an accurate wave packet method. It was found that under certain conditions, the reaction probability and cross section increase, leading to vibrational and isotopic effects.

Neural network potential energy surface for the low temperature ring polymer molecular dynamics of the H2CO + OH reaction

Pablo del Mazo-Sevillano et al.

Summary: A new potential energy surface and dynamical study of reactive process have been presented, identifying issues with spurious long range interactions in symmetry adapted neural network schemes. A novel method has been proposed to partition the PES and prevent these interactions, showing good agreement with experimental data and analyzing trapping mechanisms in the ring polymer.

Development of plasma beam irradiation facility using applied-field MPD thruster to study plasma-surface interactions

Kil-Byoung Chai et al.

Summary: The plasma beam irradiation facility was developed based on the applied-field magnetoplasmadynamic (AF-MPD) thruster concept, for studying plasma-surface interactions. Two types of AF-MPD thrusters were used, with different thruster channel widths, for heat flux and ion flux tests. It was observed that the plasma initially showed abnormal glow discharges before transitioning to an arc when the plasma current exceeded a threshold value. The results showed that using a cathode made of thoriated tungsten significantly lowered the transition threshold current from abnormal glow to arc.

Deviation of the rate of the H2+ + D2 reaction from Langevin behaviour below 1 K, branching ratios for the HD2+ + H and H2D+ + D product channels, and product-kinetic-energy distributions

Katharina Hoveler et al.

Summary: The reaction between ground-state H-2(+) and D-2 forming HD2+ + H and H2D+ + D was studied at low temperatures, showing an enhancement of reaction rate due to the interaction between H-2(+) charge and quadrupole of D-2. The relative population of rotational levels in H-2 and D-2 led to different enhancements in the reaction rates. Experimental results were in agreement with theoretical predictions, and the branching ratio of the reaction was determined to be approximately 0.341 near zero collision energy.

Three states global fittings with improved long range: singlet and triplet states of H+3

Alfredo Aguado et al.

Summary: Full dimensional analytical fits of the couple potential energy surfaces for the three lower singlet and triplet adiabatic states of H+3 have been developed, providing accurate analytic derivatives and non-adiabatic coupling matrix elements. The fits, based on the DIM formalism and obtained from ab initio points, show low total root mean square errors and have been used to calculate rovibrational bound states with good agreement to previous literature calculations.
