Exploring a case of incompatibility in a complex regimen containing Plasma-Lyte 148 in the pediatric intensive care

Niklas Nilsson et al.

Summary: The study found that precipitation occurs when midazolam and ketamine are mixed with the buffered electrolyte solution, which may pose a safety concern. Conversely, fentanyl and potassium chloride were found to be compatible with the buffered electrolyte solution.

Co-administration of drugs with parenteral nutrition in the neonatal intensive care unit-physical compatibility between three components

Niklas Nilsson et al.

Summary: This study provides compatibility data for intravenous therapy in neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) patients. By assessing particle formation and emulsion destabilisation, the study concludes that the drugs dopamine, morphine, and cefotaxime are compatible with the 3-in-1 parenteral nutrition Numeta G13E, ensuring safe co-administration in NICU patients.

Medication Safety in Intravenous Therapy: A Compatibility Study of Clonidine with Drugs Frequently Used in Intensive Care

Anna Katharina Koller et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the physicochemical compatibility of clonidine with commonly used drugs in an ICU setting. The results showed physical incompatibility with amiodarone or furosemide, and uncertain results with levosimendan and metamizole. However, physical compatibility was found with dihydralazine, milrinone, urapidil, and verapamil, and chemical compatibility with dihydralazine, levosimendan, metamizole, milrinon, urapidil, or verapamil. Ternary mixtures of clonidine, metamizole, and urapidil; clonidine, metamizole, and verapamil; clonidine, urapidil, and verapamil were shown to be physicochemically compatible.

Stability and Compatibility Aspects of Drugs: The Case of Selected Cephalosporins

Szymon Tomczak et al.

Summary: The study focused on the stability and compatibility of five cephalosporins, finding that cefazoline was only compatible with one specific parenteral nutrition admixture, while cefepime and cefuroxime were stable in infusion fluids but degraded in PN admixtures.

In situ Analytical Quality Control of chemotherapeutic solutions in infusion bags by Raman spectroscopy

Alaa A. Makki et al.

Summary: The study demonstrated the potential of using Confocal Raman Microscopy (CRM) for direct analysis of chemotherapeutic solutions in infusion bags. Results showed accurate drug identification and quantitative analysis of drug concentrations using Partial Least Squares Discriminant Analysis (PLS-DA) and Partial Least Squares Regression (PLSR). This highlights the potential of CRM for improving the analytical quality control in oncology centers.
