Roohi Abid et al.

Summary: This study investigated the pollen morphology of 15 species of the genus Lactuca from the Hindukush, Western Himalayan and Karakorum Ranges using light microscopy and scanning electron microscopy. The results showed that the pollen were isopolar, spheroidal to oblate-spheroidal in shape, with hexagonal polar view and trizonocolporate echinolophate structure. Two pollen types were identified based on the diameter of the polar and equatorial axes. The findings were consistent with recent phylogenetic studies and provided additional micromorphological characters for species delimitation.

Membrane-processed honey samples for pollen characterization with health benefits

Nabila et al.

Summary: Due to the increasing demand for honey, it is necessary to widely adopt better processing techniques. The most common technique, microporous ultrafiltration membranes, is used to assess the quality and quantity of valuable honey through melissopalynomorphs. Selective filtration of sugars from honey using ultrafiltration is crucial. This study employed membrane reactors and ultrafiltration protocols to authenticate 24 honey samples and analyze the pollen spectrum of dominant vegetation. Additionally, the study aimed to explore the nutritional benefits and active phytochemical constituents of the honey samples.

Why does pollen morphology vary? Evolutionary dynamics and morphospace occupation in the largest angiosperm order (Asterales)

Phillip E. Jardine et al.

Summary: Morphological diversity is an important component of biodiversity and understanding the evolutionary history and morphological evolution of plants. The morphospace of Asterales pollen is phylogenetically structured, but there is no significant difference in disparity among different taxonomic groups. Additionally, there is mixed evidence for whole-genome duplication driving the morphological evolution of Asterales pollen.

Pollen morphology of the subfamily Salicornioideae (Chenopodiaceae) in Eurasia and North Africa

Mehdi Dehghani et al.

Summary: The study examined the pollen morphology of 40 specimens of 15 species belonging to eight genera in the subfamily Salicornioideae of the Chenopodiaceae family, and found distinct pantopolyporate features. Despite extreme uniformity in pollen morphology, there is good evidence supporting currently known phylogenetic relationships and generic delimitations within the subfamily. Significant differences in pollen characters among populations of Halostachys belangeriana and Halocnemum strobilaceum may indicate genetic diversity or polyploidy in different populations.
