A portable tool for colorimetric detection of corrosion inhibitors using paper-based analytical devices

Lucas R. Sousa et al.

Summary: This work presents a complete and portable analytical instrumentation for the colorimetric analysis of corrosion inhibitors. The system, based on carousel architecture, consists of a 3D-printed holder and an Arduino micro-controller photoelectric sensor. Paper-based analytical devices (PAD) were used for the colorimetric measurements, showing similar results to smartphone-based analysis. The 3D-printed analytical system demonstrated high performance and potential in the detection of corrosion inhibitors in wastewater samples from the petroleum industry.

One-dollar microfluidic paper-based analytical devices: Do-It-Yourself approaches

Hardik Ramesh Singhal et al.

Summary: Paper-based devices for analytical applications have attracted researchers' interest due to their portability, versatility, and ease of interpretation, despite the barrier posed by sophisticated manufacturing techniques for widespread adoption in low-cost settings. Recent efforts have been made towards developing cost-effective paper-based analytical devices, with emphasis on utilizing readily available stationaries for fabrication. Additionally, the use of various low-cost or off-the-shelf equipment for creating hydrophobic barriers, electrodes, and housing for old detection techniques on plain paper has been explored in this review.

Novel ionic reverse mixed micelle supramolecules in dispersive liquid-liquid microextraction for the successive/individual sensitive speciation analysis of iron in natural water by UV-Vis spectrophotometry

N. N. Meeravali et al.

Summary: A procedure based on sensitive UV-Vis spectrophotometry is outlined for ultra-trace speciation analysis of iron in natural waters, utilizing new ionic reverse mixed-micelles for extraction. Iron species can be sequentially or independently extracted and then detected with pre-concentration limits of 16 and 28 ng mL-1 for Fe(II) and Fe(III) respectively, with recoveries between 92 and 100% at 100 ng mL-1.
