Molecular epidemiology of carbapenemase-producing Escherichia coli from duck farms in south-east coastal China

Min-Ge Wang et al.

Summary: This study identified ducks farms in China as an important reservoir for NDM-producing E. coli, with significant variations in the prevalence of NDM strains among different provinces. The co-existence of resistance genes in E. coli isolates poses a threat to public health by conferring resistance to multiple classes of antimicrobials.

Detection of mcr-1-positive Escherichia coli in slaughterhouse wastewater collected from Dawen river

Xinxing Wang et al.

Summary: This study detected E. coli strains carrying the colistin resistance gene mcr-1 in slaughterhouse wastewater, indicating contamination of the river environment with mcr-1 gene. The study also showed the possibility of horizontal transfer of mcr-1, leading to the formation of multidrug resistant bacteria. Large-scale cross-border cooperation is essential for effective control of the spread of antibiotic-resistant bacteria.

Summary: The study revealed a low occurrence of mcr-1-positive E. coli strains isolated from Polish poultry, yet all isolated strains demonstrated resistance to multiple antimicrobial agents and the ability to form biofilms at low or medium levels.

Genomic features of a high-risk mcr-1.1-positive Escherichia coli ST10 isolated from cattle farm environment

Arslan Ali et al.

Summary: This study described the genomic features of a plasmid-mediated colistin-resistant mcr-1-positive Escherichia coli strain isolated from a dairy farm wastewater sample, demonstrating a broad resistome and successful transferability of the mcr-1 gene. The analysis revealed a close relationship of the strain PK-3225 to human ST10 E. coli from Brazil and the USA, highlighting the importance of strict surveillance in the presence of high-risk E. coli clones in the environment in Pakistan.

Molecular typing, biofilm production, and detection of carbapenemase genes in multidrug-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii isolated from different infection sites using ERIC-PCR in Hamadan, west of Iran

Maryam Hazhirkamal et al.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate molecular typing, biofilm production, and detection of carbapenemase genes in multidrug-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii isolated from different infection sites in Iran. The results showed that most A. baumannii isolates were MDR with strong biofilm formation capabilities, and the VIM gene was the most frequent among the strains. The use of ERIC-PCR technique helped classify A. baumannii isolates, which are common pathogens in nosocomial infections.
