European multicenter propensity score match study of laparoscopic vs. open colectomy for splenic flexure carcinomas: Results from the Splenic Flexure Cancer (SFC) Study Group

N. Beghdadi et al.

Summary: This multicenter study compared the outcomes of laparoscopic and laparotomy approaches for the resection of splenic flexure colon carcinoma (SFCC). The results showed that laparoscopic surgery had less blood loss and a shorter recovery time for bowel function compared to laparotomy surgery, with no significant differences in overall survival and 5-year recurrence-free survival.

Extended right colectomy, left colectomy, or segmental left colectomy for splenic flexure carcinomas: a European multicenter propensity score matching analysis

Nicola de'Angelis et al.

Summary: This study compared the outcomes of extended right, left, and segmental left colectomy for splenic flexure carcinoma patients in a multicenter European sample. While extended right colectomy was associated with increased risk of postoperative complications, there were no significant differences in overall survival or disease-free survival between the three procedures. The study supports the use of colon-sparing surgical techniques such as segmental left colectomy for the resection of splenic flexure carcinomas.
