Synthesis of ursolic acid arylidene-hydrazide hybrid compounds and investigation of their cytotoxic and antimicrobial effects

Halil Senol et al.

Summary: In this study, 13 new hybrid compounds were synthesized from ursolic acid and their cytotoxic activities and antimicrobial properties were evaluated. The results showed that certain compounds exhibited low cytotoxicity against specific cell lines, with compound 7k demonstrating high selectivity against A549 cells. Additionally, compound 7c showed effective antimicrobial activity against Staphylococcus aureus.

Halil Senol et al.

Summary: In this study, the therapeutic effect of a compound called OPCA on multiple sclerosis (MS) was investigated using a preclinical model. The results demonstrated that OPCA protected the mouse brain, maintained blood-brain barrier integrity, and reduced inflammation. Furthermore, OPCA increased the expression of genes involved in myelin development and structure, and reduced the release of pro-inflammatory cytokines. Therefore, OPCA is a promising and appealing candidate for treating human MS.

Synthesis and bioactivities evaluation of oleanolic acid oxime ester derivatives as α-glucosidase and α-amylase inhibitors

Xu-Yang Deng et al.

Summary: Different oleanolic add (OA) oxime ester derivatives were designed and synthesised to develop inhibitors against alpha-glucosidase and 7 amylase. Compound 3a showed the highest alpha-glucosidase inhibition, while compound 3f exhibited the highest alpha-amylase inhibitory. Both compounds showed a good safety profile against cells.

Inhibitory kinetics and mechanism of oleanolic acid on α-glucosidase

Zhike Xie et al.

Summary: The study demonstrated that oleanolic acid inhibits alpha-glucosidase activity in a reversible mixed-type manner driven mainly by hydrophobic interaction and hydrogen bonding. The binding of OA induced conformational changes in the enzyme and ultimately inhibited its activity by interacting with specific amino acid residues in the active center.

The novel nanocomplexes containing deoxycholic acid-grafted chitosan and oleanolic acid displays the hepatoprotective effect against CCl4-induced liver injury in vivo

Chao Xin et al.

Summary: A novel oral nanocomplex composed of deoxycholic acid-grafted chitosan and oleanolic acid was designed to reverse CCl4-induced acute liver damage in mice, showing superior hepatoprotective effect possibly through synergistic improvement of hepatic antioxidant capacity and regulation of inflammation response. This novel oral nanocomplex represents an effective strategy for chemical liver injury therapy.
