Prediction of transverse mechanical performance of UD CFRP composite lamina considering high-temperature properties of epoxy

Kailong Xu et al.

Summary: A comprehensive computational micromechanics method is proposed in this study to predict the mechanical properties and failure envelop of materials under bi-axial stress at high temperatures. By employing suitable damage models and fiber placement algorithms, and conducting finite element simulations, detailed analysis results are obtained.

Study on out-of-plane tensile strength of angle-plied reinforced hybrid CFRP laminates using thin-ply

F. Ramezani et al.

Summary: Thin-plies are gaining interest for high-performance applications like aerospace, and replacing layers of CFRP with thin-ply in a unidirectional composite laminate can delay delamination. A study on angle-plied composite laminates under out-of-plane tensile loading reveals that they have higher failure load due to the more complex crack path.

Evaluation the interface damage influences on mechanical properties of fiber-reinforced composites based on subdomain boundary element theory

Yiwei Wang et al.

Summary: This paper presents a novel microscopic method to investigate the effective mechanical properties and local stress distribution of composites with specific interfacial cracks. A subdomain boundary element method (SBEM) is combined with asymptotic homogenization theory to calculate the effective mechanical properties. To accurately capture stress distribution, a parametric sub-cell is constructed and a node-pair decoupling method is introduced. The study reveals the influence of mechanical properties on composites, providing a solid foundation for composite interface design and manufacturing.
