Evaluation of in-plane crushing performance of printed randomly polymeric honeycombs filled with foamed concrete

Shilong Wang et al.

Summary: Proper design of cellular structure-based composite can improve mechanical properties of constituent members acting separately. The study developed novel foamed concrete-filled honeycombs with tailored geometrical architectures, and investigated their inplane crushing performance under quasi-static and impact loadings. The results showed that the presence of foamed concrete greatly strengthens the collapse resistance of cell walls in honeycombs, preventing premature failure. The mechanical properties of FCFHs are highly dependent on the mesostructures of honeycomb skeleton.

Nonlinear vibration characteristics of fibre reinforced composite cylindrical shells in thermal environment

Hui Li et al.

Summary: This paper proposes an analytical model for fiber reinforced polymer composite cylindrical shells (FRPCCSs) considering material and geometric nonlinearities and thermal effects, which can predict natural frequencies, damping ratios, and resonant responses. Experimental validation shows that the natural frequencies of composite shell specimens initially decrease and then increase with increasing excitation amplitude, while damping ratios and resonant responses of FRPCCSs increase with excitation amplitude and environmental temperature. The study also highlights the significant effect of environmental temperature on the damping performance of FRPCCSs.
