Statistical subspace-based damage detection with estimated reference

Eva Viefhues et al.

Summary: The statistical subspace-based damage detection technique shows promising results for vibration-based structural health monitoring by evaluating residual functions and efficiently testing hypothesis. It is important to consider the estimation uncertainty of the reference null space to increase the robustness of the method in practice while detecting small changes in system parameters.

Subspace identification of bridge dynamics via traversing vehicle measurements

Nan Jin et al.

Summary: This study proposes a subspace identification scheme to estimate bridge frequencies by processing the dynamic response of a traversing vehicle, specifically discussing the feasibility of the MOESP method for vehicles with high speed and short characteristic lengths. The study uses a SVD-based pseudo-inverse algorithm to deal with the time-varying nature of the vehicle-bridge system, and numerically verifies the proposed scheme on synthetic datasets obtained via simulation of the VBI problem.

Piezoelectric energy enhancement strategy for active fuzzy harvester with time-varying and intermittent switching

Yushin Hara et al.

Summary: This study proposed two switching strategies for the charge inversion circuit, which consider the vibration suppression threshold, to maintain high mechanical vibration amplitude and excellent harvesting performance through intermittent switching actions. Experimental results showed that the new strategies achieved 2.9 times and 2.0 times greater harvested energy storage compared to a standard harvester and conventional switching strategy, respectively.

Identification of Nonlinear Stiffness and Damping Parameters Using a Hybrid Approach

Rui Zhu et al.

Summary: A hybrid nonlinear identification approach combining the restoring force surface method and the nonlinear subspace identification method is proposed in this study. It can confidently identify the nonlinear coefficients associated with stiffness and damping nonlinearities, and works well under different noise-level contaminations.
