Ultrasound Evaluation of the Primary α Phase Grain Size Based on Generative Adversarial Network

Siqin Peng et al.

Summary: This study developed an ultrasound evaluation method for primary alpha phase grain size using virtual samples generated by a generative adversarial network (GAN). The proposed method overcomes the limitation of a small sample set in tissue structure ultrasound evaluation and achieves higher accuracy and stability in ultrasound evaluation.

Grain size evaluation with time-frequency ultrasonic backscatter

Yangguang Bu et al.

Summary: The article introduces a new method to evaluate the grain size nondestructively using ultrasonic backscatter signal, achieving a relative error of 2.26% and successfully suppressing electrical noise. The global sensitivity analysis shows different sensitivities of transducer parameters and material parameters in the time-frequency backscatter model. The grain size sensitivity index of the time-frequency backscatter model is higher than the time domain or the frequency-domain backscatter models.

In-situ measurement of alpha formation kinetics in a metastable beta Ti-5553 alloy using laser ultrasonics

Mariana C. M. Rodrigues et al.

Summary: This study explores the potential of laser ultrasonics for metallurgy (LUMet) as an advanced in-situ technique to measure the alpha formation kinetics in a Ti-5553 alloy. Experimental observations and theoretical models based on the Johnson-Mehl-Avrami-Kolmogorov (JMAK) theory provide insights into transformation kinetics. The consistency between the partial time-temperature-transformation (TTT) diagram and in-situ measurements reaffirms the monitoring capacity of LUMet for microstructure evolution in Ti-alloys.

Grain Size Estimation using phased array ultrasound attenuation

Yu Liu et al.

Summary: A phased array ultrasound method for grain size estimation was developed with diffraction loss correction, allowing reliable results to be achieved with low focal depth and relatively small steering angles. This study demonstrates the effectiveness of incorporating diffraction loss correction in phased array ultrasound for accurate grain size estimation.

Image Processing of Mg-Al-Sn Alloy Microstructures for Determining Phase Ratios and Grain Size and Correction with Manual Measurement

Ali Ercetin et al.

Summary: This study utilized computer vision technology to measure the microstructural properties of Mg alloys and compared the results with manual methods, showing that the accuracy of the automated counting technique exceeded 92%. Additionally, accurate ASTM grain sizes and precise measurements of intermetallic phases (Mg17Al12 and Mg2Sn) were obtained with over 95% and 97% accuracy, respectively, using automated measurements. The proposed automatic image processing technique has the potential to be a useful tool for tracking and analyzing the microstructure of various alloys.
