Summary: A new RDC method using a trapezoidal excitation signal is proposed in this article to minimize nonlinear problems while maintaining the advantages of the square-wave excitation method. The trapezoidal excitation signal is expressed through a Fourier series expansion to find the optimal point where the total harmonic distortion (THD) along the length of the flat region is minimized. Additionally, a simple circuit for implementing trapezoidal excitation signals is introduced. The effectiveness of the proposed method is verified through experiments.

Summary: In this paper, a Variable-Reluctance resolver (VR-Resolver) with a novel structure is proposed as an absolute position sensor, which analyzes two possible structures. The elimination of slip rings in the rotor is achieved by locating the signals and excitation windings on the stator. The rotor is shaped in a simple variable reluctance structure with low sensitivity to manufacturing tolerance.

Summary: This paper investigates the use of resolvers as position sensors for obtaining angle information. To achieve precise signal detection, the resolver signals are sampled in synchronization with the pulsewidth modulation (PWM) carrier. Additional signal processing is required when the resolver excitation signal frequency and the PWM carrier frequency are different in order to obtain angle information.

Summary: This study presents a comprehensive design and analysis of a limited-angle wound rotor resolver (LAWRR) with high precision. The impact of two major design parameters, stator and rotor number of turns combinations, as well as the transformation ratio, on the angular position accuracy is investigated. A simple analytical method is used to determine the optimal number of turn combinations based on total harmonic distortion (THD) percentage. Finite element analysis (FEA) is employed to verify the analytical calculations and determine the optimal number of turns combinations. The cross-correlation effect between the stator and rotor winding configurations is also considered, and accuracy analyses are conducted.

Summary: This work presents a novel analysis for a new type of VR-Resolvers based on the MEC method. The performance of the resolver under different windings configurations and rotor structures is investigated accurately using a flexible MEC model. The effects of eccentricity fault on the resolver are also evaluated. The proposed MEC model provides an opportunity to adjust accuracy and simulate various structures in healthy and faulty conditions with just a single model. The MEC results are confirmed by finite element method and experimental results, showing the effectiveness of the proposed model.

Summary: This paper introduces a new methodology to optimize the design of a printed circuit board (PCB) based ratiometric rotary inductive position sensor. The optimization focuses on reducing the linearity error and voltage mismatch of the sensor. By modifying the shape of the receiving coils, the optimized sensors demonstrate improved linearity error without the need for signal calibration or post-processing manipulation. The effectiveness of the optimization tool is verified through simulations and measurements on different prototypes of an absolute rotary sensor.

Summary: This paper proposes an analytical model of a novel axial reluctance resolver based on the finite element method and winding function method. The resolver consists of a rotor with half-wave magnetic-bands and a stator with parallel teeth, which simplifies the manufacturing process and allows for mass production. The interference resistance of the sinusoidal distributed winding configuration is verified using the winding function method, and the accuracy and computation costs of the proposed method are compared with the finite element method under constant and sinusoidal distributed winding configurations. The robustness of the half-wave resolver under axial offset is demonstrated and validated through theoretical explanation and numerical simulation. The accuracy of the proposed resolver under healthy and offset conditions is compared and summarized. Compared to traditional resolvers, the half-wave axial reluctance resolver has simpler processing, higher precision, and stronger interference resistance. The simulation results and theoretical analysis confirm the success of the design and analysis process.
