New RDC Method Using Trapezoidal Excitation Signal Considering Resolver Nonlinearity

Yunkyung Hwang et al.

Summary: A new RDC method using a trapezoidal excitation signal is proposed in this article to minimize nonlinear problems while maintaining the advantages of the square-wave excitation method. The trapezoidal excitation signal is expressed through a Fourier series expansion to find the optimal point where the total harmonic distortion (THD) along the length of the flat region is minimized. Additionally, a simple circuit for implementing trapezoidal excitation signals is introduced. The effectiveness of the proposed method is verified through experiments.

Design and Analysis of Limited-Angle Wound Rotor Resolvers

Tayfun Gundogdu et al.

Summary: This study presents a comprehensive design and analysis of a limited-angle wound rotor resolver (LAWRR) with high precision. The impact of two major design parameters, stator and rotor number of turns combinations, as well as the transformation ratio, on the angular position accuracy is investigated. A simple analytical method is used to determine the optimal number of turn combinations based on total harmonic distortion (THD) percentage. Finite element analysis (FEA) is employed to verify the analytical calculations and determine the optimal number of turns combinations. The cross-correlation effect between the stator and rotor winding configurations is also considered, and accuracy analyses are conducted.

A novel axial reluctance resolver proposal and its winding configuration optimization using winding function method

Xiaohe Ran et al.

Summary: This paper proposes an analytical model of a novel axial reluctance resolver based on the finite element method and winding function method. The resolver consists of a rotor with half-wave magnetic-bands and a stator with parallel teeth, which simplifies the manufacturing process and allows for mass production. The interference resistance of the sinusoidal distributed winding configuration is verified using the winding function method, and the accuracy and computation costs of the proposed method are compared with the finite element method under constant and sinusoidal distributed winding configurations. The robustness of the half-wave resolver under axial offset is demonstrated and validated through theoretical explanation and numerical simulation. The accuracy of the proposed resolver under healthy and offset conditions is compared and summarized. Compared to traditional resolvers, the half-wave axial reluctance resolver has simpler processing, higher precision, and stronger interference resistance. The simulation results and theoretical analysis confirm the success of the design and analysis process.
