Body weight and fat mass across the menopausal transition: hormonal modulators

Pierluigi Moccia et al.

Summary: The menopausal transition is associated with an increase in adiposity, particularly in the abdominal area, and a decrease in lean mass. Changes in energy expenditure and food intake also play a role, with the estrogen receptor alpha isoform being a key factor in fat accrual. Additional hormonal factors, including androgens and FSH, may also contribute to changes in body composition during menopause.

Handgrip strength, dynapenia, and related factors in postmenopausal women

Pascual Garcia-Alfaro et al.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the prevalence of dynapenia and factors related to low dominant handgrip strength in postmenopausal women. The results showed that age, age at menopause, fat content, and bone mineral density were all associated with handgrip strength. Older age and higher adiposity were significantly associated with a higher risk of dynapenia, while higher femoral neck T-score was associated with a lower risk.
