Tensions and coalitions: A new trade agreement affects the policy space for nutrition in Vietnam

Summary: Global trade has had a long-term impact on food systems, and modern trade agreements are accelerating and complicating these changes, affecting public health and nutrition transition. This study examined the influence of the 2018 Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) on the policy space for public health nutrition in Vietnam, identifying tensions between Vietnamese policies and CPTPP sections. Different policy actors hold varying beliefs and interests on these issues, requiring more regular and constructive interaction to find solutions.

Prevalence and associated factors of overweight and obesity among primary school children: a cross-sectional study in Thanhhoa City, Vietnam

Summary: This study aimed to determine the prevalence and associated factors of overweight and obesity among primary school children in Thanhhoa city. The results showed that the prevalence of overweight/obesity was 35.93%, with higher rates among boys than girls. Child's sex was found to be significantly associated with childhood overweight/obesity. Other potential factors included mode of transport to school, people living with the child, parents' occupation and education, eating habits, and physical activity. The findings highlight the importance of interventions targeting these factors to reduce the rate of childhood obesity.

Development and Validation of the Vietnamese Children's Short Dietary Questionnaire to Evaluate Food Groups Intakes and Dietary Practices among 9-11-Year-Olds Children in Urban Vietnam

Summary: This study aimed to develop and evaluate the Vietnamese Children's Short Dietary Questionnaire (VCSDQ) for assessing food group intakes and dietary practices among school-aged children in urban Vietnam. The questionnaire showed good reproducibility but low relative validity. However, it demonstrated good direct validity in core and non-core food groups, and could be used to classify daily intakes of fruits and vegetables.

Dietary patterns and their associations with overweight/obesity among preschool children in Dongcheng District of Beijing: a cross-sectional study

Summary: The study focused on exploring dietary patterns and their associations with overweight/obesity among preschool children in the Dongcheng District of Beijing. The research identified four main dietary patterns and found a preference for high energy density but low nutritional value diets among preschool children, which were associated with a higher risk of overweight/obesity, particularly the Sugar-sweetened beverage (SSB) and snack pattern. Comprehensive measures are needed urgently to reduce the consumption of SSBs and unhealthy snacks among preschool children to address the childhood obesity problem in China.

Data-Driven Dietary Patterns, Nutrient Intake and Body Weight Status in a Cross-Section of Singaporean Children Aged 6-12 Years

Summary: Pattern analysis of children's diet can provide insights into chronic disease risk in adolescence and adulthood. In this study, three main dietary patterns were identified in young Singaporean children: Western, Convenience, and Local/hawker. The findings highlight the importance of longitudinal analysis of dietary habits in younger Singaporeans to better define public health messaging aimed at reducing the risk of major noncommunicable diseases.
