PREDICTION OF SURFACE ROUGHNESS OF CO2 LASER MODIFIED POPLAR WOOD VIA RESPONSE SURFACE METHODOLOGY

Rongrong Li et al.

Summary: The CO2 laser is used as an environmentally friendly thermal treatment for wood materials due to its advantages of short treatment period and no wastewater and oil produced. However, it also affects the surface roughness of the treated wood, which in turn affects the wooden product properties. This study analyzed the influence of laser parameters on surface roughness and found that laser power increased the surface roughness of poplar wood, while feed speed and path spacing decreased the surface roughness. It is important to scientifically predict and guide the selection of reasonable modification process parameters for the modified wood surface.

Assessment of Surface Roughness in Milling of Beech Using a Response Surface Methodology and an Adaptive Network-Based Fuzzy Inference System

Zhaolong Zhu et al.

Summary: This study focused on improving the cutting quality of beech wood during milling by investigating the changes in surface roughness under different cutting conditions. A relationship model between milling conditions and surface roughness was established using response surface methodology and adaptive network-based fuzzy inference system. The optimal milling condition, which includes a rake angle of 15 degrees, a spindle speed of 3357 r/min, and a depth of cut of 0.62 mm, was determined for achieving smooth surface in actual machining.

Modeling and Predicting the Machined Surface Roughness and Milling Power in Scot's Pine Helical Milling Process

Rongrong Li et al.

Summary: Helical milling of Scots pine was studied to evaluate machinability based on surface roughness and milling power consumption. The results showed that surface roughness decreased with an increase in helical angle and rotation speed, while increased with an increase in milling depth. However, milling power consumption increased with an increase in helical angle and milling depth, but showed a slight downward trend with an increase in rotation speed. The optimized combination of helical angle, rotation speed, and milling depth were determined to improve surface quality and save power consumption.

Energy Efficiency Optimization for Machining of Wood Plastic Composite

Zhaolong Zhu et al.

Summary: Enhancing energy efficiency is crucial for achieving green manufacturing. This study focuses on the energy efficiency of spiral milling in wood plastic composites and develops a model to establish the relationship between energy efficiency and milling conditions. The findings show that milling depth is positively correlated to power efficiency, while the spiral angle and feed per tooth display non-monotonic behavior. Optimal milling conditions are determined for the highest material removal rate and power efficiency.

Effects of temperature and fiber orientation on the tensile behavior of short carbon fiber reinforcedPEEKcomposites

Baoning Chang et al.

Summary: The study found that the mechanical properties of SCF/PEEK composites exhibit significant anisotropy under different temperatures and fiber orientations, with fibers mainly aligned along the mold flow direction. As temperature increases, both elastic modulus and tensile strength decrease, while fracture strain increases.
