Enhanced tensile properties and intersecting nanotwins formation mechanism of Ti44Al48Nb8 alloy via electromagnetic levitation processing

C. Liang et al.

Summary: By combining the electromagnetic levitation method with materials processing techniques, bulk Ti44Al48Nb8 alloy samples with different shapes were prepared and systematically investigated for their microstructure evolution, tensile properties, and deformation behavior. Three types of intersecting nanotwins were observed under highly undercooled state, and samples processed by copper mold casting showed improved tensile properties due to refined microstructure and the formation of intersecting nanotwins.

Eutectic growth kinetics and microscopic mechanical properties of rapidly solidified CoCrFeNiMo0.8 high entropy alloy

P. X. Yan et al.

Summary: The liquid CoCrFeNiMo0.8 high entropy alloy (HEA) undergoes undercooling and solidifies rapidly. The transition from slow lamellar eutectic growth to rapid anomalous eutectic growth is observed, which affects crystal orientation and mechanical properties. The growth mechanism transition is due to independent nucleation and cooperative branched growth of the two eutectic phases. The structural refinement and increase in volume fraction of anomalous eutectic contribute to the improved hardness, compression strength, and ductility of the alloy.

Effect of cerium-rich mischmetal content on the growth morphology and microstructure evolution of undercooled Al-70 wt%Si alloys

Bo Dang et al.

Summary: The effects of different cerium-rich rare earth contents on Al-70 wt%Si alloys were investigated using electromagnetic levitation. The nucleation and growth, growth mode, and morphology evolution of primary Si were observed. Results showed that with an increasing RE content, the critical undercooling gradually decreased.

Rapid assessment of solid solution hardening via atomic size misfit parameter in refractory concentrated alloys

Il Hwan Kim et al.

Summary: Solid solution hardening is a simple method to increase the strength of alloys, and recent research suggests that edge dislocation may dominate the SSH mechanism in some concentrated alloys. By measuring parameters and applying models, it is found that increasing the atomic size misfit parameter can provide a better estimation of measured SSH.

Effects of Ni content on microstructure and properties of aged Cu-0.4Be alloy

Yan-bin Jiang et al.

Summary: The Ni content significantly affects the strength and electrical conductivity of the Cu-0.4wt.%Be alloy. The optimal strength is achieved when the Ni content is 1.50 wt.%, with a large number of dispersed nano-scale coherent phases formed during aging at 400 degrees C for 60 minutes, contributing to the high strength of the alloy.
