Microstructure and mechanical properties of multi-scale ?-Fe reinforced Cu-Fe composite produced by vacuum suction casting

Yanjun Ding et al.

Summary: Cu-10Fe composites were produced by vacuum suction casting and traditional vacuum mold casting, and the evolution of their microstructure and properties during cold rolling and aging processes was analyzed. The suction-casted composite exhibited improved mechanical properties compared to the traditional mold-casted composite, with a microhardness of 146 HV, tensile strength of 526 MPa, and elongation of 23.7%. The higher softening temperature of the suction-casted composite (520 degrees C) was attributed to the refinement of the Cu matrix and the formation of multi-scale alpha-Fe particles through solute trapping during vacuum suction casting. The yield strength of the composites was mainly influenced by Orowan strengthening, refinement strengthening, and dislocations strengthening, contributing 31.1%, 25.8%, and 24.1%, respectively.

Influence of as-cast structure refinement on heritability of mechanical properties for Cu-15Ni-8Sn alloys

Shunran Zhang et al.

Summary: This study reports a novel heredity phenomenon where the mechanical properties of thermo-mechanically processed Cu-15Ni-8Sn alloys were improved by refining the as-cast structure. The underlying mechanism of hereditary strengthening was carefully analyzed, showing that it is mainly attributed to the additional dislocation proliferation induced by structure refinement and accelerated precipitation effect on strengthening phases. The strengthening mode changes from grain refinement in as-cast state to dislocation and precipitation strengthening in aged alloys.

Understanding creep mechanisms of a Cu-Cr-Nb alloy by testing under constant structure conditions

M. Zhang et al.

Summary: The stress reduction creep tests on a Cu-Cr-Nb alloy at 923 K revealed local dislocation climb as the rate-controlling deformation mechanism, with an activation energy consistent with self-diffusion in the Cu matrix. An internal back stress of approximately -9 MPa was found to act on the rate-controlling dislocations, believed to be the sum of interaction between dislocations and particles, as well as dislocations themselves. However, this back stress does not lead to a true threshold in thermally activated dislocation motion.
