Designing a low-melting Sn6Ag7Ni4Co2Ti high entropy alloy filler to optimize microstructure and mechanical properties of Ti3SiC2/Cu joint

Xin Nai et al.

Summary: The study found that using Sn6Ag7Ni4Co2Ti low-melting high entropy alloy as filler can achieve a defect-free Ti3SiC2/Cu brazed joint. The high-entropy effect and hysteresis effect of the alloy effectively reduce the rate of atomic diffusion and slow down the metallurgical reaction, which is beneficial to maintain a simple interface structure. The joint brazed with Sn6Ag7Ni4Co2Ti HEA filler achieved a maximum shear strength of 60.55 +/- 3.45 MPa, which is 34.85% higher than the joint brazed with Ag-26.7Cu-4.5Ti filler.

Effect of Ti content on microstructure and mechanical properties of SiCf/SiC composites/GH536 superalloy joints brazed with CoFeCrNiCuTi high entropy filler

Shuai Zhao et al.

Summary: In this study, SiCf/SiC composite and GH536 superalloy were vacuum brazed using a self-made CoFeNiCrCuTix high entropy filler with varying Ti content. The influence of Ti content in the filler on the microstructure and mechanical properties of the joints was investigated. Increasing the Ti content in the filler shifted the interfacial reaction control from Fe and Ni elements to Ti elements. The presence of TiC phase in continuous strips helped inhibit and reduce the formation of brittle Fe-Si and Ni-Si phases, resulting in improved mechanical properties. The maximum shear strength of the brazed joint reached 98.23 MPa when the molar ratio of Ti content to other elements in the filler was 1, which was 14.10% higher compared to filler without Ti element. This study demonstrates that Ti element in high entropy fillers can regulate interfacial reactions and reduce the amount of brittle intermetallic compounds, presenting a new idea for high entropy filler design and its application in brazing.

Microstructural evolution and growth kinetics of interfacial reaction layers in SUS430/Ti3SiC2 diffusion bonded joints using a Ni interlayer

Qiang Cheng et al.

Summary: Ti3SiC2 ceramic and SUS430 stainless steel were successfully joined using Ni interlayers and solid diffusion bonding technique. It was found that the Ni foil effectively prevented inter-diffusion and reaction between Ti3SiC2 and SS, and the good transition in the joint contributed to the sound joining. The interface in the joints adjacent to SS matrix was composed of gamma solid solution and a small amount of sigma intermetallic compound.

Summary: Using composite filler with YSZ solid-state phase transformation ceramic particulates, this study successfully reduced the residual stresses and improved the mechanical strength of ceramic/metal brazing joints. The microstructure of joints and YSZ particulates in the interface were investigated, and the effect of YSZ particulates content on the mechanical properties of joints was evaluated. The results showed that the solid-state phase transformation of YSZ particulates played a crucial role in reducing the residual stress and enhancing the shear strength of the joints.

Shuai Zhao et al.

Summary: In this study, SiCf/SiC and GH536 were brazed using a high entropy alloy CoFeNiCrCu filler. The interfacial microstructure, brazing mechanism, and mechanical properties of the joint were investigated. Due to the high entropy mixing effect of the filler, a random solid solution formed in the seam, resulting in greatly enhanced mechanical properties of the joint.

Understanding the microstructure evolution mechanism and the microstructure-strength correlations of Ti3SiC2/Ti2AlNb joint brazed with AgCu interlayer

Bo Zhang et al.

Summary: The effect of brazing parameters on the microstructure of a Ti3SiC2 ceramic brazed joint with a Ti2AlNb alloy was investigated and the microstructure evolution mechanism of the joint was clarified through characterization of the interfacial reaction products. The unique crystal structure of Ti3SiC2 phase leads to the effortless de-intercalation of Si atoms and subsequent complex interfacial reactions. The brazing temperature has a significant influence on these reactions, with a maximum shear strength achieved at 860°C for 20 minutes.

Summary: The study showed that an increase in Ti3SiC2 content in Cu-Ti3SiC2 composites results in decreased relative density and bending strength, while hardness and electrical resistivity increase. The morphology and phase composition of the erosion zone are primarily influenced by the decomposition process and the amount of Ti3SiC2 in the cathode.
