Advanced Nickel-Based Catalysts for Urea Oxidation Reaction: Challenges and Developments

Yaming Ma et al.

Summary: The electrochemical urea oxidation reaction (UOR) is vital for urea-based energy conversion devices, but its performance is limited by the complexity of the six-electron transfer process. Developing efficient UOR catalysts is crucial, and nickel-based materials have been extensively studied and proven to be a suitable choice due to their high activity, easy modification, stable properties, and cost-effectiveness. Various techniques, such as alloying, doping, heterostructure construction, defect engineering, micro functionalization, and conductivity modulation, have been explored to produce highly efficient UOR catalysts. Reviewing the progress in this field promptly is important to inspire further studies.

Electrocatalytic performance of inorganic nanoflakes nickel phosphates under adjusted synthetic parameters towards urea and methanol oxidation in alkaline media

Mai M. Khalaf et al.

Summary: Inorganic nanoflakes nickel phosphates were introduced to enhance the electrocatalytic oxidation performance of methanol and urea. The study found that 0.8 M urea was the optimal proportion for methanol oxidation, and the synthesized phosphates showed enhanced electrocatalytic oxidation for both methanol and urea at different scan rates. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy confirmed the ability of the synthesized nanoflakes phosphate material to oxidize methanol and urea.

Nickel single atom-decorated carbon nanosheets as multifunctional electrocatalyst supports toward efficient alkaline hydrogen evolution

Peng Li et al.

Summary: In this study, Ni single atom-decorated carbon nanosheets were developed as multifunctional supports for engineering heterostructured electrocatalysts towards hydrogen evolution in alkaline media. The Ni single atoms were found to cleave H-OH bonds actively and facilitate Had spillover to metallic Pt sites. Additionally, a Pt/PtOx configuration was generated at the heterointerface via Pt-O-C (Ni) interfacial bonding, with oxidized Pt species located at the interface and metallic Pt formed in the near-interface area.

A fluorescent probe for selective detection of Fe3+ by using a self-assembled nitrogen-doped carbon quantum dots-3,4,9,10-perylenetetracarboxylic acid composite

Kunjie Wang et al.

Summary: Nitrogen-doped carbon quantum dots (N-CQDs) were synthesized using citric acid and urea, and then combined with 3,4,9,10-perylenetetracarboxylic acid (PTCA) to form a self-assembled composite (N-CQDs/PTCA) with strong fluorescence emission around 510 nm. The self-assembled N-CQDs/PTCA showed stable and strong fluorescence properties, which can be used as a fluorescent probe for selective detection of Fe3+ ions with a detection limit of 0.041 mu M.
