About the automatic measurement of the dislocation density obtained by R-ECCI

J. Gallet et al.

Summary: This study presents a new method for automatic characterization of dislocation density. By acquiring a series of images while rotating the sample, the intensity profile of each pixel in the region of interest can be calculated. The method is suitable for a wide range of dislocation densities. Simulation experiments were conducted to determine the projection errors related to image analysis. Experimental results showed that the measurement errors are mainly limited by image analysis conditions. The evaluation of depth errors in the measurement can reach an order of magnitude.

Structural evolution during nanostructuring of additive manufactured 316L stainless steel by high-pressure torsion

Jae-Kyung Han et al.

Summary: In this study, structural evolution of additive manufactured 316L stainless steel through post-printing nanostructuring using high-pressure torsion at room temperature was investigated. The formation of a martensite phase and significant strain gradients were observed in the nanostructured austenitic steel. Early stage structural changes were attributed to lattice distortion by excess of dislocations and defects.

Assessment of Dislocation Density by Various Techniques in Cold Rolled 1050 Aluminum Alloy

Jurij J. Sidor et al.

Summary: This study investigated the evolution of dislocation density in cold rolled 1050 Al alloy using various techniques. The results showed that the increase in dislocation density tends to slow down after a 30% straining level. The numerical approaches used provided reasonable estimations of dislocation density at low to moderate deformation levels.

Multi-scale study on the heterogeneous deformation behavior in duplex stainless steel

Xiao Zhang et al.

Summary: The heterogeneous deformation behavior of austenite and ferrite in 2205 duplex stainless steel is triggered by the yielding of austenite. As the strain increases, the interaction between austenite and ferrite becomes considerable, leading to back stress and forward stress generated by the pile-up of dislocations.

Summary: The study focused on the influence of SIMT on strain distribution, kinetics, and microstructure, proposing a modified model to quantify SIMT kinetics. Experimental tests characterized the effects of SIMT on damage evolution, revealing that the overall fracture of LDSS exhibits ductile features.
