Control of Anisotropic Crystallographic Texture in Powder Bed Fusion Additive Manufacturing of Metals and Ceramics-A Review

Koji Hagihara et al.

Summary: Additive manufacturing allows for the production of complex geometries with superior properties by controlling the microstructure and texture of the product through selecting appropriate process parameters. The use of selective laser melting is discussed as a common method to control product texture.

Recrystallization in non-conventional microstructures of 316L stainless steel produced via laser powder-bed fusion: effect of particle coarsening kinetics

F. C. Pinto et al.

Summary: Alloys processed by laser powder-bed fusion exhibit distinct microstructures, including dislocation cells, dispersed nanoparticles, and columnar grains. These alloys show sluggish recrystallization kinetics compared to conventionally processed counterparts. This study investigates the progress of recrystallization in LPBF 316L stainless steel and sheds light on the nucleation mechanisms and competition between driving and dragging pressures in non-conventional microstructures.

Effect of Severe Plastic Deformation and Post-Deformation Heat Treatment on the Microstructure and Superelastic Properties of Ti-50.8 at.% Ni Alloy

Tae-Jin Lee et al.

Summary: Severe plastic deformation and short annealing treatment result in a partially recrystallized microstructure with small grain size in Ni-rich Ti-50.8Ni alloy. Aging treatment leads to the formation of R phase as the major phase, which contributes to excellent superelasticity and superelastic cyclability. The achievement is attributed to grain refinement, particle strengthening, and reduced critical stress for stress-induced martensite transformation due to the presence of R phase.

Revealing relationships between microstructure and hardening nature of additively manufactured 316L stainless steel

Luqing Cui et al.

Summary: The relationship between microstructures and hardening nature of laser powder bed fused (L-PBF) 316 L stainless steel has been studied, showing that the hardness of the alloy is predominantly governed by GNDs. During annealing treatments, the migration of GNDs and the decrease of SSD density play important roles in the hardness variation of the material.

Interactions between Dislocations and Boundaries during Deformation

Hongjiang Pan et al.

Summary: In this paper, the interactions between dislocations and boundaries during deformation at ambient temperatures are reviewed, with a focus on interaction behaviors, boundary resistances and energies, transmission mechanisms, grain size effects, and other primary influencing factors. The structure of boundaries and interactions between dislocations and boundaries in metals with different grain sizes are summarized, and the advantages and drawbacks of in-situ techniques are briefly discussed based on experimental and simulation results. The latest studies and fundamental concepts are presented in the hope that this paper can serve as a reference for the interactions between dislocations and boundaries during deformation.
