Effect of process parameters on microstructures and properties of Al-42Si alloy fabricated by selective laser melting

Xiaoye Cai et al.

Summary: In this study, high-silicon Al-42Si alloy was prepared using selective laser melting (SLM) with different process parameters. The microstructure evolution and defects formation were investigated, and the process parameters were optimized. It was found that the density and hardness of the SLM-fabricated alloy increased with the increase of input energy density. Heat treatment improved the microstructure stability and homogeneity of the SLM-fabricated alloy. The optimal SLM parameters for the Al-42Si alloy were determined.

Influence of in-flight particle characteristics and substrate temperature on the formation mechanisms of hypereutectic Al-Si-Cu coatings prepared by supersonic atmospheric plasma spraying

Peng-fei He et al.

Summary: Hypereutectic Al-Si-Cu coatings were prepared by supersonic atmospheric plasma spraying to enhance the surface performance of lightweight alloys. The study focused on the influence of temperature, velocity, and substrate temperature on the coatings' morphology and microhardness. The results showed that the optimal combination of parameters can lead to a highly-melted region with nanosized structures and low porosity levels, resulting in improved microhardness.

Microstructure and mechanical properties of plasma transferred wire arc spray coating on aluminum cylinder bores

J. Zhang et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the microstructure and mechanical properties of a plasma transferred wire arc (PTWA) coating deposited on diecast aluminum alloy cylinder bores. Residual stress, coating hardness, and failure modes were investigated, revealing the thermal mismatch-induced compressive residual stress, estimated coating hardness, and three modes of failure involving coating delamination and breakage.

Effect of the width and depth of laser-textured grooves on the bonding strength of plasma-sprayed coatings in the scratch direction

Delong Jia et al.

Summary: In this study, molybdenum coatings were deposited on stainless steel substrates using atmospheric plasma spraying with laser-textured groove patterns and grit blasting substrate pretreatment. The results showed that the bonding strength of the coatings could be superior to cohesive strength under certain laser scan times and groove spacing conditions.

Effect of nanoparticles on morphology and size of primary silicon and property of selective laser melted Al-high Si content alloys

Lixia Xi et al.

Summary: This study investigated the influence of ceramic nanoparticles on the morphology and size of primary Si phase(s) in AlSi40 alloys manufactured by selective laser melting (SLM). The addition of ceramic nanoparticles resulted in a reduction in the size of primary Si, leading to more homogeneous microhardness distribution and improved mechanical properties. The modified alloy showed increased ultimate compressive strength and maximum compressive strain compared to the unmodified alloy, indicating enhanced performance.
