Assessing the impact of different salinities on the desorption of Cd, Cu and Zn in soils with combined pollution

Lijun Wu et al.

Summary: Through batch desorption experiments, this study investigated the release characteristics of heavy metals (Cd, Cu, and Zn) under different salt types and concentrations. The results showed that different salts had different impacts on metal release, and the presence of ferromanganese oxides in the soil favored the release of Cd and Zn under salt treatments. Moreover, the redox potential was an important factor affecting Cu release. The study also highlighted the influence of background metal values on metal release. Overall, this study provides important insights for controlling heavy metal pollution in salinization and coastal soils.

Metal pollution in the Pearl River Estuary and implications for estuary management: The influence of hydrological connectivity associated with estuarine mixing

Lixia Niu et al.

Summary: This study comprehensively analyzed the behaviors of seven metals in the Pearl River Estuary, revealing moderate pollution levels overall, with occasional severe perturbations. The eastern estuary was more heavily polluted by metals, and riverine inputs and estuarine mixing significantly influenced the distribution and movement of trace metals in the estuary.

Geochemical fractionation, source identification and risk assessments for trace metals in agricultural soils adjacent to a city center (Canakkale, NW Turkey)

Ali Sungur et al.

Summary: The study investigated trace metal pollution in agricultural lands surrounding the Canakkale city center in NW Turkey, with Cd and Pb identified as main contaminants of high risk due to anthropogenic sources. It is recommended to enhance monitoring and control of these metals to mitigate environmental risks.

Chemical speciation and ecological risk assessment of Cd, Pb and As in sediments: a case study in the Xijiang River basin, China

Haibo Wang et al.

Summary: The study investigated the mobility and availability of Cd, Pb, and As pollution in the sediments of the Xijiang River Basin in China. Metal speciation analysis showed that Cd had higher mobility and availability compared to As and Pb, posing an elevated environmental risk. The Diaojiang River was identified to have high ecological risk levels mainly contributed by the mining industry.

Influence of Two Eddy Pairs on High-Salinity Water Intrusion in the Northern South China Sea During Fall-Winter 2015/2016

Xiangpeng Wang et al.

Summary: This study investigated two processes of high-salinity water intrusion in the northeastern South China Sea during fall-winter of 2015/2016 using data from Argo float, satellite altimetry, and reanalysis. The results showed that eddy pairs and the interior circulation of the South China Sea jointly affected the transport of high-salinity water.
