Accounting for environmental stress in restoration of intertidal foundation species

Rachel. J. J. Clausing et al.

Summary: Restoring foundation species in historical habitats can be challenging, especially if adult facilitation is crucial for the survival of early life stages. Exposure to transient, low environmental stress and outplanting clumped individuals may enhance resilience and facilitate successful establishment of early life stages in zones of reduced abiotic stress.

Bio-Guided Optimization of Cystoseira abies-marina Cosmeceuticals Extraction by Advanced Technologies

Goncalo P. Rosa et al.

Summary: This study aims to determine the optimal conditions for ultrasound-assisted extraction (UAE) and microwave-assisted extraction (MAE) of Cystoseira abies-marina to obtain extracts with better antiaging activities. The results show that the best conditions for UAE are ethyl acetate as the extraction solvent, 15 minutes extraction time, and a ratio of 1:4 for algae/solvent, leading to an extract with high yield and strong inhibition of tyrosinase and elastase. For MAE, the best conditions are ethanol as the extraction solvent, 10 minutes extraction time, and a ratio of 1:4 for algae/solvent, leading to the extract with the best antioxidant activity.

Amorphous and crystalline cerium(iv) phosphates: biocompatible ROS-scavenging sunscreens

T. O. Kozlova et al.

Summary: This paper presents a comprehensive study on the UV-shielding properties and cytotoxicity of amorphous and crystalline cerium(iv) phosphates. The results show that these compounds have excellent UV-shielding properties and are non-toxic to cells, even enhancing cell proliferation. These findings suggest that tetravalent cerium phosphates could be promising UV filters for sunscreen applications.

Antiviral phytochemicals as potent inhibitors against NS3 protease of dengue virus

Md. Mahbubur Rahman et al.

Summary: The study focused on finding potential inhibitors against the NS3 protease of the dengue virus through systematic screening. Among 40 antiviral phytochemicals, Cyanidin 3-Glucoside, Dithymoquinone, and Glabridin were predicted to be potent inhibitors based on their binding affinity. The ligand-protein complexes were further analyzed through molecular dynamics simulation and binding free energy calculation to investigate their binding stability, indicating potential effectiveness of these inhibitors.
