Polyvinyl alcohol based-drug delivery systems for cancer treatment

Gabriela Rivera-Hernandez et al.

Summary: Polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) is a biodegradable synthetic polymer with high biocompatibility and non-toxicity, widely used in biomedical and pharmaceutical applications. Utilizing PVA to prepare hydrogels, microparticles, or nanoparticles for cancer treatment shows promising results in improving drug solubility, targeted drug delivery, and reducing toxicity and side effects. The combination of PVA with copolymers has emerged as a viable strategy for building novel functional composites for drug delivery systems in cancer treatment.

Tomas Remis et al.

Summary: Advanced polymer nanocomposites were developed using a single-step solution-casting method, with nanodiamonds (NDs) improving the stability and mechanical properties of polyvinyl alcohol (PVA). The interaction between NDs and PVA led to a significant increase in tensile strength, with NDs present in agglomerates of approximately 60 nm size. Results from various analyses techniques confirmed the potential of NDs as a beneficial nanofiller for enhancing the properties of PVA.
