Study of the Influence of PCL on the In Vitro Degradation of Extruded PLA Monofilaments and Melt-Spun Filaments

Vivien Barral et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effect of melt-spinning process on the degradation behavior of bioresorbable PLA and PCL polymer blends. Results showed that incorporating PCL into the PLA matrix slowed down the hydrolytic degradation, with a heterogeneous degradation behavior observed as PCL ratio increased. Melt spinning had an impact on the morphology and other properties over time.

Fast Stereolithography Printing of Large-Scale Biocompatible Hydrogel Models

Nanditha Anandakrishnan et al.

Summary: The study introduces a rapid hydrogel stereolithography printing method called FLOAT, which allows for the creation of centimeter-sized, multiscale solid hydrogel models within minutes. This method significantly reduces part deformation and cellular injury caused by environmental stresses in conventional 3D printing methods and enables media perfusion through embedded vessel networks to maintain cellular viability in large-sized models. The approach represents a key step towards the fabrication of large-sized engineered tissue models.

Precise control of synthetic hydrogel network structure via linear, independent synthesis-swelling relationships

N. R. Richbourg et al.

Summary: This study investigates how changes in synthesis conditions affect the network structure of hydrogels, and identifies linear correlations between synthesis variables and swelling behavior. It also demonstrates that complex biopolymer structures can disrupt the linear synthesis-swelling correlations. These findings provide insight into controlling hydrogel physical properties through structural design and can be used to optimize biomedically relevant hydrogels.
