The Chemotherapeutic Efficacy of Hyaluronic Acid Coated Polymeric Nanoparticles against Breast Cancer Metastasis in Female NCr-Nu/Nu Nude Mice

Hassan A. Almoustafa et al.

Summary: PEG-coated PLGA nanoparticles are used for cancer treatment due to their biocompatibility, nonimmunogenicity, and ability to accumulate in tumor sites. In this study, HA-PEG-PLGA NPs were tested on a mouse model of breast cancer metastasis and showed significant inhibition of tumor growth and less metastasis compared to control and Free DOX groups. Further studies on pharmacokinetics and toxicity are needed before clinical research.

A Soft Zwitterionic Hydrogel as Potential Coating on a Polyimide Surface to Reduce Foreign Body Reaction to Intraneural Electrodes

Manuele Gori et al.

Summary: The organic zwitterionic-poly(sulfobetaine methacrylate) [poly(SBMA)]-hydrogel has been demonstrated as an effective coating to reduce foreign-body reaction caused by intraneural electrodes. This hydrogel exhibits low fouling characteristics and can be successfully coated on Polyimide surfaces through covalent bonds, showing potential for long-term release of anti-fibrotic drugs. Its properties make it a promising diffusion-based delivery system for slow and controlled anti-inflammatory and anti-fibrotic drug release in vivo.

Multi-functional nanocellulose-chitosan dressing loaded with antibacterial lawsone for rapid hemostasis and cutaneous wound healing

Tamanna Sultana et al.

Summary: The development of a biomaterial with hemostatic antibacterial features for controlled delivery of lawsone during wound healing was explored. It showed faster degradation and release of lawsone in acidic pH conditions, and demonstrated efficacy in promoting hemostasis and wound closure in a rat model, suggesting potential for functional wound healing applications.

Epidermal and fibroblast growth factors incorporated polyvinyl alcohol electrospun nanofibers as biological dressing scaffold

Amnah Asiri et al.

Summary: Different structures of PVA nanofiber wound dressing scaffolds were prepared and their biological activities were verified in vitro and in vivo studies. Changes in morphological features of nanofibers after growth factor incorporation were observed, promoting cell proliferation and growth. In animal experiments, mix and multilayer scaffolds had a better promotion effect on wound healing.

Inhibition of bacterial adhesion and biofilm formation by a textured fluorinated alkoxyphosphazene surface

Meixian Tang et al.

Summary: The research findings demonstrate that modifying the surface of improved fluorinated alkoxyphosphazene materials with ordered pillars enhances antibacterial properties and reduces bacterial adhesion coefficient. Furthermore, textured X-OFP biomaterials showed no biofilm formation, indicating a significant improvement in biocompatibility and reduction of pathogenic infection risk.

Improved Mesenchymal Stem Cell Proliferation, Differentiation, Epithelial Transition, and Restrained Senescence on Hierarchically Patterned Porous Honey Silk Fibroin Scaffolds

Anurup Mukhopadhyay et al.

Summary: The hierarchically patterned porous honey-incorporated silk fibroin scaffolds fabricated using soft lithography and freeze-drying techniques show improved biocompatibility and proliferation of adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells (ADMSCs). The honey-release scaffolds exhibit sustained antibacterial efficacy against MRSA and regulate ADMSC behavior by altering their cytoskeletal rearrangement for increased cell spreading and sheet formation. The synergistic effect of biochemical (honey) and biophysical (patterns) cues on ADMSCs highlights the potential of these scaffolds for regenerative healing implant applications.
