Molecular insight into photoresponsive surfactant regulated reversible emulsification and demulsification processes

Long Su et al.

Summary: Photoresponsive emulsions have shown great potential in various applications due to their green and efficient characteristics. Molecular dynamics simulations revealed that the structural difference between trans- and cis-isomers of AzoTAB molecules affects the stability and emulsification/demulsification processes at the oil/water interface. The addition of a small amount of SDS can inhibit the desorption of AzoTAB from the interface, highlighting the importance of interfacial stability in these systems.

Exploring the Nucleobase-Specific Hydrophobic Interaction of Cryptolepine Hydrate with RNA and Its Subsequent Sequestration

Atanu Nandy et al.

Summary: The study of drug molecules interacting with genetic materials is crucial for the development of new drugs, as understanding their interactions can help target genetic material related diseases accurately. Research showed that cryptolepine hydrate interacts with the guanine- and adenine-rich region within RNA, with hydrophobic interaction playing a key role. The study also demonstrated the use of host-guest chemistry in sequestering the RNA-bound drug, which is important for developing safer therapeutic applications.

Controllable enzymatic superactivity of α-chymotrypsin activated by the electrostatic interaction with cationic gemini surfactants

Zheng Yue et al.

Summary: This study investigated the impact of cationic gemini surfactants on the enzymatic activity and conformation of alpha-chymotrypsin (α-CT), finding that the surfactants led to superactivity of α-CT below the critical micelle concentration, and the charge density of headgroups was regulated through electrostatic interactions. Characterization using isothermal titration calorimetry (ITC) revealed an endothermic enthalpy change, indicating a change in conformation and enzymatic superactivity. Fluorescence spectroscopy, circular dichroism (CD), and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) demonstrated that the gemini surfactants induced and regulated different protein structures. The findings are significant for understanding the activation and denaturation mechanisms of enzymes.
