Surface plasmon mediated harmonically resonant effects on third harmonic generation from Au and CuS nanoparticle films

Nathan J. Spear et al.

Summary: A class of nonlinear materials using localized surface plasmonic resonance (LSPR) of nanoparticles has been employed to enhance harmonic generation. In this study, the effect of dual plasmonic interactions in bilayer CuS and Au nanoparticle films on third harmonic generation (THG) was explored. The results showed that detuning the CuS LSPR and changing the size of the Au nanoparticle can alter the dominant upconversion pathway and eliminate the enhancement effect. Simultaneous excitation of CuS-Au nanoparticle films at the resonant frequency of each nanoparticle species enhances the generation of third harmonic light. An analytic model of incoherent dipolar interactions between the plasmonic nanoparticles is also presented.

Encapsulation of Nanoparticles into Preformed Block Copolymer Micelles Driven by Competitive Solvation: Experimental Studies and Molecular Dynamic Simulations br

Labeesh Kumar et al.

Summary: The research demonstrates the encapsulation of polymer-tethered nanoparticles inside preformed block copolymer micelles in the presence of a selective cosolvent, leading to the formation of hybrid micelles containing a single nanoparticle within a certain range of cosolvent volume fraction. This provides new opportunities for the fabrication of BCP-based hybrid nanomaterials with potential applications in various fields such as drug delivery, diagnostics, catalysis, energy harvesting, and optical devices.

Nanoparticle-Stabilized Perforated Lamellar Morphology in Block Copolymer/Quantum Dot Hybrids

Sajan Singh et al.

Summary: A unique perforated lamellar (PL) morphology was observed in a mixture of an asymmetric polystyrene-block-poly(4-vinylpyridine) (PS-b-P4VP) block copolymer and CdSe-CdS quantum dots (QDs). The CdSe-CdS QDs were localized exclusively in the P4VP perforations, contributing to the energetically stabilized PL morphology. This study reveals possibilities for novel hierarchical structures in block copolymer/nanoparticle composite systems and offers new opportunities for their application in nanotechnology.

Enhanced Photoluminescence of Gold Nanoparticle-Quantum Dot Hybrids Confined in Hairy Polymer Nanofibers

Sajan Singh et al.

Summary: In this study, the influence of gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) on the photoluminescence behavior of cadmium selenide (CdSe) quantum dots (QDs) confined in spatially separated soft nanoscale cylindrical domains was investigated. It was found that the presence of AuNPs can manipulate the photoluminescence intensity of CdSe QDs, with low fraction of AuNPs leading to enhancement and further increase causing quenching of the intensity. The interaction between energy transfer mechanisms and FRET/electron transfer processes between QDs and AuNPs could explain the observed phenomena.
