Enthalpic and entropic contributions to interleaflet coupling drive domain registration and antiregistration in biological membrane

Akshara Sharma et al.

Summary: This study reveals the formation and maintenance mechanism of registered domains in biological membranes through analytical theory and simulation models. It shows that the interactions between different lipid molecules play a crucial role in the formation of registered domains, with higher unsaturation positions of lipids providing weaker interleaflet coupling. Additionally, the study finds thermodynamically stable nanodomains within a certain parameter range.

Cholesterol stabilizes recombinant exocytic fusion pores by altering membrane bending rigidity

Lanxi Wu et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that cholesterol dramatically stabilizes fusion pores in the open state, resulting in a significant increase in the open dwell-time. This effect is attributed to the known role of cholesterol in altering the elastic properties of lipid bilayers.

Dynamic interplay between cell membrane tension and clathrin-mediated endocytosis

Umidahan Djakbarova et al.

Summary: The deformability of the plasma membrane plays a crucial role in cell functions such as membrane resealing, motility, and endocytosis. Cell membrane tension is a key factor that regulates these functions, including clathrin-mediated endocytosis. This review focuses on the mechanoregulation of endocytic processes and the role of membrane tension in regulating cellular functions.
