Hydroxyl Radical Production via a Reaction of Electrochemically Generated Hydrogen Peroxide and Atomic Hydrogen: An Effective Process for Contaminant Oxidation?

Yang Li et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates an electrochemical advanced oxidation process (EAOP) that can simultaneously catalyze the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) to generate atomic hydrogen (H*) and hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) in situ. By using a palladium-coated carbon-PTFE gas diffusion electrode (Pd/C GDE) as a catalytic cathode, hydroxyl radicals ((OH)-O-center dot) can be formed by the reaction of electrogenerated H* with H2O2. The H*/GDE process is more effective in degrading organic contaminants compared to the conventional H*/H2O2 process.

The bimetallic effect promotes the activity of Rh in catalyzed selective hydrogenation of phenol

Shiwei Li et al.

Summary: Au@RhPd ultrathin nanowires serve as a highly reactive and selective catalyst for the hydrogenation of phenol at ambient conditions. The interaction between Au NWs and Rh atoms enhances the adsorption and desorption processes, while Pd acts as a cocatalyst to activate H2 and transfer it to Rh sites. This catalyst exhibits a turnover frequency of up to 560 h(-1) with over 80% selectivity towards cyclohexanones.

Restructuring of the gold-carbide interface for low-temperature water-gas shift

Chuanchuan Jin et al.

Summary: A passivated Au/alpha-MoC catalyst was re-activated by CH4/H-2 at high temperature, resulting in significant structural changes at the gold-carbide interface. The restructuring dispersed the gold clusters into smaller ones and formed carbide thin layers on the gold surface. This promoted charge transfer and extended the interfacial perimeter, playing a crucial role in the activity of the low-temperature water-gas shift reaction.

Exclusive Strain Effect Boosts Overall Water Splitting in PdCu/Ir Core/Shell Nanocrystals

Menggang Li et al.

Summary: In this study, precise synthesis of PdCu/Ir core/shell nanocrystals was reported, which significantly boosted oxygen evolution reaction (OER) through the exclusive strain effect. The compressive strain in the Ir shell downshifted the d-band center and weakened the binding of the intermediates, leading to enhanced OER activity. The strained nanocrystals also exhibited improved hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) activity, making them excellent catalysts for overall water-splitting electrocatalysis.
