Recruiting Indigenous Patients Into Clinical Trials: A Circle of Trust

Arch G. Mainous III et al.

Summary: The Circle of Trust is a new conceptual model that aims to improve health outcomes by increasing the inclusion of American Indian/Alaska Native (AI/AN) populations in clinical trials. AI/AN populations have the lowest representation in clinical trials and suffer from significant health disparities. The authors propose expanding the existing trust triangle model to include the community and advocate for collaborative efforts between investigators and the AI/AN community.

Nobody Is Talking About It: Dine (Navajo) Communities Speak About Stomach Cancer andHelicobacter pyloriInfections

Carmenlita Chief et al.

Summary: Stomach cancer, associated with Helicobacter pylori infection, is the third leading cause of cancer death globally. This study in Navajo Nation found limited knowledge and awareness of H. pylori infection and stomach cancer among adults, with participants perceiving a lack of knowledge in local medical providers on these conditions. Participants also related poor health care experiences, structural inequalities, and environmental concerns to H. pylori infection and stomach cancer. These findings highlight the need for additional research and education in Navajo Nation to improve understanding of stomach cancer and H. pylori infections.
