Summary: Despite significant improvements in ACL reconstructive surgery, graft failure remains a serious complication for some patients, especially in revision procedures. This study aimed to determine the incidence of short-term complications following primary and revision ACL reconstruction, as well as comparing trends in operative length and reimbursement between the two groups. The results showed that revision ACL procedures had higher rates of poor 30-day outcomes and were associated with higher ASA scores, indicating a greater risk for complications in these patients. Additionally, the study found that the current RVU system undervalues revision ACL procedures, despite the increased operative time and complexity involved.

Summary: The total number and incidence of ACLR procedures in Korea increased from 10,248 and 21.8 in 2008 to 14,500 and 29.1 in 2016, with a 33.5% rise in incidence over the 9-year period. ACLR was more common in males than females, but the growth rate was higher in females. Patients in their 20s were the most frequent recipients of ACLR, followed by those in their 30s, 40s, and teens. The most common concomitant procedures during ACLR were meniscectomy and meniscal repair.
