Pseudorabies virus tegument protein UL13 recruits RNF5 to inhibit STING-mediated antiviral immunity

Zhengjie Kong et al.

Summary: This study reveals that UL13 protein of PRV inhibits STING-mediated antiviral signaling by regulating the stability of STING. UL13 interacts with STING and recruits E3 ligase RNF5 to degrade STING, persistently evading host antiviral responses. These findings provide a new target for the development of gene-deleted vaccine for pseudorabies.

The Epidemiology and Variation in Pseudorabies Virus: A Continuing Challenge to Pigs and Humans

Qingyun Liu et al.

Summary: Pseudorabies virus (PRV) is a virus that can infect most mammals and causes economic losses in the pig industry. It can lead to severe symptoms and high mortality, and there has been an increasing number of human cases reported in China. This review provides an overview of the global prevalence and variation of PRV, as well as the vaccines and diagnostic methods used for control. While control programs have been implemented in many countries, PRV is still globally epizootic and an important pathogen for pigs.

Antiviral Effect of hBD-3 and LL-37 during Human Primary Keratinocyte Infection with West Nile Virus

Celine Chessa et al.

Summary: LL-37 can directly inhibit West Nile virus (WNV), while hBD-3 does not have an inhibitory effect on WNV replication. Both peptides have immunomodulatory properties in WNV-infected keratinocytes.

Free ISG15 inhibits Pseudorabies virus infection by positively regulating type I IFN signaling

Huimin Liu et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the importance of free ISG15 in inhibiting PRV growth and promoting IFN-alpha-mediated antiviral activity. The interaction between ISG15 and STAT2 plays a key role in this process.

Evasion of I Interferon-Mediated Innate Immunity by Pseudorabies Virus

Rui Zhang et al.

Summary: This review highlights the importance of IFN-I mediated innate immunity in defense against viral infection, focusing on the strategies employed by the alphaherpesvirus Pseudorabies virus (PRV) to counteract IFN-I mediated immunity, particularly through inhibition of IFN-I induced gene transcription via the JAK-STAT pathway. Knowledge gained from PRV contributes to understanding alphaherpesviral immune evasion mechanisms and aids in vaccine development for PRV control.
