African swine fever virus cysteine protease pS273R inhibits pyroptosis by noncanonically cleaving gasdermin D

Gaihong Zhao et al.

Summary: Research has found that the pyroptosis execution protein gasdermin D (GSDMD) is a new binding partner of ASFV-encoded protein S273R (pS273R). Further experiments showed that pS273R can cleave swine GSDMD, producing a shorter N-terminal fragment that does not trigger pyroptosis or inhibit ASFV replication. This discovery reveals a previously unrecognized mechanism involved in the inhibition of pyroptosis induced by ASFV infection.

Human Cytomegalovirus miR-US33as-5p Targets IFNAR1 to Achieve Immune Evasion During Both Lytic and Latent Infection

Qian Zhang et al.

Summary: The study reveals that HCMV-encoded miR-US33as-5p can inhibit the Jak-STAT signaling pathway by targeting IFNAR1, affecting the virus's resistance to interferon. Additionally, miR-US33as-5p from HCMV also influences interferon resistance during chronic infection and latency.

African Swine Fever Virus MGF-110-9L-deficient Mutant Has Attenuated Virulence in Pigs

Dan Li et al.

Summary: This study generated a mutant ASFV strain, ASFV-Delta 9L, with partial attenuation in pigs by deleting the ASFV MGF-110-9L gene. The findings suggest the potential usefulness of ASFV-Delta 9L strain for further development of ASF control measures.

The African Swine Fever Virus with MGF360 and MGF505 Deleted Reduces the Apoptosis of Porcine Alveolar Macrophages by Inhibiting the NF-κB Signaling Pathway and Interleukin-1β

Qi Gao et al.

Summary: African swine fever virus poses serious threats to the swine industry, with the mortality rate at 100% and no effective vaccine available. CD2v and MGF360-505R genes are involved in modulating the immune response. Deficiency in CD2v and MGF360-505R in ASFV leads to decreased apoptosis in cells by inhibiting the NF-kappa B signaling pathway and IL-1 beta mRNA transcription, suggesting a potential novel strategy for ASFV replication in the host.

African Swine Fever in Wild Boar in Europe-A Review

Carola Sauter-Louis et al.

Summary: ASF, introduced into Georgia from Africa in 2007, continues to spread through Europe and Asia, with a high socio-economic impact. Control measures focus on removing wild boar carcasses and limiting their movements to reduce density. Some countries like the Czech Republic and Belgium have successfully eliminated ASF using these measures.
