Polymer melt rheology: Advantages of frequency sweeps using randomly selected frequencies

Montgomery T. Shaw

Summary: This paper discusses the measurement of the viscoelastic properties of polymer materials and emphasizes the importance of eliminating time effects during experiments. By running frequencies in random order, the confounding of frequency with run time can be eliminated, allowing for more accurate data interpretation. Through modeling and real examples, it is shown that this method not only indicates the presence of time effects, but can also analyze the time rate of change of the sample.
