Growth Mechanisms of TaN Thin Films Produced by DC Magnetron Sputtering on 304 Steel Substrates and Their Influence on the Corrosion Resistance

Milton David Serna-Manrique et al.

Summary: In this study, thin films of TaN were synthesized on 304 steel substrates using reactive DC sputtering. The effect of target power on the resulting phases and microstructural characteristics was investigated. The results showed a correlation between growth energy and crystallinity, and the formation of the delta-TaN phase was observed despite low N2 content.

Statistical investigation of structural and transport properties of densely-packed assemblies of overlapping spheres using the resistor network method

Oleg Birkholz et al.

Summary: The study investigates the relationships between microstructure characteristics and effective transport properties of granular materials through modeling and simulation of sphere packings. It establishes formulas expressing effective transport properties of the considered sphere packings in terms of the mean contact angle and the standard deviation of the particle radii.

Microstructure Evolution of Ruthenium During Vacuum Hot Pressing Obtaining fine-grained metal with mechanical properties close to electron-beam melted ruthenium

Renyao Zhang et al.

Summary: Ruthenium tablets with a mean grain size of around 4-5 μm were prepared by vacuum hot pressing. The maximum density of 12.2 g cm(-3) was achieved with a sintering time of 2 hours. The study also showed texture and microstructure changes in ruthenium tablets with sintering time.

Effect of water atomization on properties of type 4130 steel processed by L-PBF

M. Abdelwahed et al.

Summary: A comparison was made between gas and water atomized 4130 low-alloy steel powders processed by Laser-powder bed fusion. The two powders showed differences in relative density levels and microstructural features. During laser processing, in-situ tempering of martensite was observed, leading to equivalent hardness values in both types of steel. Ultimately, the powder atomization process had limited impact on the mechanical properties of the investigated steels.

Improved properties of atomic layer deposited ruthenium via postdeposition annealing

Michael Hayes et al.

Summary: Thin film ruthenium deposited by thermal atomic layer deposition showed reduced resistivity and changes in morphology and crystalline structure after annealing at 500 degrees C. There was also a decrease in residual carbon and oxygen content during annealing.
