Weakly nonlinear stability analysis and study of chaotic Darcy-Benard convection of a combusting fluid

P. G. Siddheshwar et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the linear and weakly nonlinear stability analyses of combustion-induced Darcy-Benard convection in a Newtonian fluid using a zeroth-order chemical reaction model. The Frank-Kamenetskii-Vadasz-Lorenz model is derived and transformed into a Ginzburg-Landau equation to study the heat transport in the combusting fluid. The effects of combustion on the onset of regular and chaotic motions and the enhancement of heat transport are examined. The appearance of chaotic/periodic motion and the favoring of prolonged periodic convection in the presence of combustion are highlighted.

A Route to Chaos in Rayleigh-Benard Heat Convection

Chun-Hsiung Hsia et al.

Summary: In this study, numerical methods are used to investigate the global bifurcation diagrams of the Benard convection problem. By including a large number of Fourier modes, the results provide a more realistic reflection of the dynamics of Rayleigh-Benard heat convection, and confirm that the period doubling scenario is a route to chaos.

Thermal Instability and Chaos in a Hybrid Nanofluid Flow

S. J. Dedewanou et al.

Summary: This work investigates the linear and nonlinear dynamics of thermal convection in an incompressible Newtonian (alumina-copper)/water hybrid nanofluid, confined in an infinite rectangular cavity and heated from below via the Cattaneo-Christov heat flux model. The study finds that the addition of hybrid nanoparticles delays oscillatory convection and expands the range of stationary convection. Furthermore, the chaos in the hybrid nanofluid lasts longer in the presence of thermal relaxation time.

Steady finite-amplitude Rayleigh-Benard convection of ethylene glycol-copper nanoliquid in a high-porosity medium made of 30% glass fiber-reinforced polycarbonate

P. G. Siddheshwar et al.

Summary: The paper conducts stability analyses of Rayleigh-Benard convection in a Newtonian nanoliquid-saturated high-porosity medium, showing the enhanced heat transport and accelerated onset of convection due to copper nanoparticles in the ethylene glycol nanoliquid-saturated porous medium. Theoretical explanation is provided for the increased heat transfer situation in the medium, highlighting the cooling effect of nanoparticles and heat retention by the porous matrix.

Magnetic Field Inhibition of Convective Heat Transfer in Magnetic Nanofluid

Arthur Zakinyan et al.

Summary: This study focuses on the development and suppression of thermal convection in a flat vertical quasi-two-dimensional layer of magnetic nanofluid, demonstrating the effectiveness of applying external magnetic fields to regulate convective heat transfer. It shows that an external uniform stationary magnetic field perpendicular to the temperature gradient can suppress convection, leading to a slowdown in the heating and cooling processes of metal plates in a magnetic nanofluid. The results obtained provide insights into similar exchange processes in liquids under the influence of a magnetic field.
