Effects of using ethyl acetate as a surprising additive in SI engine pertaining to an environmental perspective

M. K. Yesilyurt et al.

Summary: The study showed that blending ethyl acetate with gasoline can reduce carbon monoxide, hydrocarbon, and nitrogen monoxide emissions in a spark-ignition engine. Additionally, the thermal efficiency of the ethyl acetate blend was found to be up to 5% less than gasoline, with even lower differences at lower engine loads. Meanwhile, the exergy efficiency of the ethyl acetate blend was 34.27%, slightly lower than the 37.17% efficiency of gasoline. Despite higher engine power costs, fuel blends with ethyl acetate may be a viable alternative if pump prices are reduced.
