Cell-Seeded Biomaterial Scaffolds: The Urgent Need for Unanswered Accelerated Angiogenesis

Hanieh Shokrani et al.

Summary: This review article summarizes various natural and synthetic scaffolds that support angiogenesis, as well as cell sources and influential factors for angiogenesis with a focus on biomechanical and other stimulatory factors. The article points out that the selection of the best biomaterial and cells remains a contentious area, and highlights parameters that need to be addressed in future studies.

Integration and functional performance of a decellularised porcine superflexor tendon graft in an ovine model of anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction

Jennifer Helen Edwards et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the performance of decellularised porcine superflexor tendon (pSFT) as an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction device. The results showed good in vivo performance and comparable biomechanical properties of decellularised pSFT and ovine allograft SFT, with both grafts showing similar histopathological and immunohistochemical trends over time.

Glycosaminoglycan-Protein Interactions and Their Roles in Human Disease

Deling Shi et al.

Summary: Glycosaminoglycans (GAGs) are negatively charged linear polysaccharides found on human cell surfaces and in the extracellular matrix, interacting with a variety of proteins and playing crucial roles in physiological processes and human diseases. Recent advancements in analytical tools, especially mass spectrometry-based GAG sequencing, have deepened our understanding of GAG-protein interactions in disease mechanisms. This review focuses on the molecular basis and mechanisms of GAG-protein interactions in human diseases, as well as the development of novel therapeutics targeting specific GAG-protein interactions.
