Polycyclic metamorphic evolution of the Sierra Albarrana Schists (SW Iberian Massif): From low-pressure Ordovician rifting to medium-pressure Variscan overprint

Byron Solis-Alulima et al.

Summary: This study provides new insights into the polycyclic metamorphic evolution of the Sierra Albarrana Domain in the SW Iberian Massif. Mineral assemblages and petrological modeling were used to accurately reproduce the assemblage of St-Grt-And pelitic schists, but faced difficulties in modeling And-Grt-Sil-bearing schists. The study also investigates the influence of Fe3+ on phase relations in pelites and records a regional low-pressure metamorphic event followed by exhumation and a localized medium-pressure metamorphic event.

Detrital zircon ages and provenance of a Cambrian succession in the Sierra Albarrana Domain (SW Iberian Massif)

Byron Solis-Alulima et al.

Summary: This study presents U-Pb geochronological data on detrital zircon grains from the metasedimentary successions in the Sierra Albarrana Domain. The results suggest that this domain is likely part of the autochthonous section of the Central Iberian Zone and the sedimentary provenance may be from the Saharan Metacraton with possible minor input from the Tuareg Shield. The study also compares the U-Pb zircon data with existing data from Neoproterozoic and Cambrian rocks in the Iberian Massif using multidimensional scaling techniques.

Tectonic setting and isotopic sources (Sm-Nd) of the SW Iberian Autochthon (Variscan Orogen)

Jose Manuel Fuenlabrada et al.

Summary: The metasedimentary rock successions in the Sierra Albarrana Group in SW Iberia were deposited in the Early Paleozoic period under the influence of the evolution of a peri-Gondwanan active margin. Their geochemical and isotopic characteristics suggest a significant contribution of reworked materials from old continental sources, indicating the tectonic activities and sedimentary environment during the early stages of the formation.
