Agricultural managed aquifer recharge (Ag-MAR)-a method for sustainable groundwater management: A review

Elad Levintal et al.

Summary: More than two billion people and 40% of global agricultural production depend on unsustainable groundwater extraction. Agricultural managed aquifer recharge (Ag-MAR) is an emerging method for spreading large volume flows on agricultural lands and has the capacity for widespread global implementation. However, there are still knowledge gaps and other issues to address in the implementation of Ag-MAR.

Identifying Agricultural Managed Aquifer Recharge Locations to Benefit Drinking Water Supply in Rural Communities

Nisha Marwaha et al.

Summary: The southern Central Valley of California faces issues of groundwater overuse leading to shortages and contamination of drinking water. Designing managed aquifer recharge systems can improve the resilience of rural communities to these problems.

Climate Uncertainty and Optimal Groundwater Augmentation

Dat Q. Tran et al.

Summary: The study shows that the use of managed aquifer recharge slightly decreases with higher risk aversion, while the use of on-farm reservoirs with tail-water recovery increases. For risk-neutral producers, managed aquifer recharge increases income by a greater percentage than for very risk-averse producers.
