Cryoballoon Ablation as Initial Therapy for Atrial Fibrillation

Oussama M. Wazni et al.

Summary: In this multicenter trial, cryoballoon ablation as initial therapy was found to be superior to drug therapy in preventing atrial arrhythmia recurrence in patients with paroxysmal atrial fibrillation. Serious procedure-related adverse events were uncommon.

Cryoablation or Drug Therapy for Initial Treatment of Atrial Fibrillation

Jason G. Andrade et al.

Summary: In patients with symptomatic, paroxysmal atrial fibrillation, catheter cryoballoon ablation was associated with a significantly lower rate of atrial fibrillation recurrence compared to antiarrhythmic drug therapy. The ablation group also had better outcomes in terms of atrial tachyarrhythmia occurrence and atrial fibrillation burden.

Relationship between procedural volume and complication rates for catheter ablation of atrial fibrillation: a systematic review and meta-analysis

Ivaylo R. Tonchev et al.

Summary: The study found an inverse relationship between procedural volume and the incidence of complications in atrial fibrillation (AF) ablation, with higher volume associated with lower complication rates. High procedural volume may be beneficial in reducing the risk of complications in AF ablation procedures.

Safety and complications of catheter ablation for atrial fibrillation: Predictors of complications from an updated analysis the National Inpatient Database

Lingling Wu et al.

Summary: Complications of atrial fibrillation (AF) ablations in the real world setting were analyzed using the National Inpatient Sample database. From 2015 to 2017, a total of 1884 complications were identified among 1080 patients with a complication rate of 7.2%. Pulmonary hypertension and chronic kidney disease (CKD) were independent predictors of complications, while centers with higher procedural volumes were associated with lower complication rates.
