Facile Synthesis of Metallosalphen-Based 2D Conductive Metal-Organic Frameworks for NO2 Sensing: Metal Coordination Induced Planarization

Xi Su et al.

Summary: We developed a nonplanar hexahydroxyl-functionalized Salphen ligand (6OH-Salphen) through a facile two-step synthesis and used it to construct layered 2D c-MOFs through in situ one pot synthesis based on the synergistic metal binding effect of the N2O2 pocket of Salphen. The Cu-Salphen-MOF exhibited periodically heterogeneous pore structures due to the C-2v symmetry of the ligand. With higher metal density and shorter in-plane metal-metal distance, Cu-Salphen-MOF showed excellent NO2 sensing performance with good sensitivity, selectivity, and reversibility. This work provides a new approach to directly construct 2D c-MOFs from nonplanar ligands, simplifying the synthesis process and offering new possibilities for preparing functional materials with different topologies.

Linker Aromaticity Reduces Band Dispersion in 2D Conductive Metal-Organic Frameworks

Monique C. Demuth et al.

Summary: All 2D electrically conductive MOFs are made from oxidized hexasubstituted aromatics that oxidize during self-assembly. The extent of residual aromaticity in the oxidized linker is a good indicator for electronic localization in the resultant MOF, and ligands with antiaromatic pi-systems in the oxidation state found within the MOF should yield increased band curvature, affecting charge mobility in high performing electrical conductors.

Metallosalphen-Based 2D Covalent Organic Frameworks with an Unprecedented tju Topology via K-Shaped Two-in-One Monomers

Zongfan Yang et al.

Summary: Increasing research interest has been raised in twodimensional covalent organic frameworks (2D COFs) due to their unique structural features and versatile functions. However, the development of 2D COFs has been limited by the relatively limited configuration of precursors. In this study, three K-shaped two-in-one building units were newly designed and synthesized, which not only had a special configuration but also incorporated metallosalphen functional moieties. These building units easily formed three new metallosalphen-based COFs with an unprecedented tju topology. Among them, Ni-Salphen-COF exhibited the highest performance in photocatalytic bromination.

Electrical conductivity through π-π stacking in a two-dimensional porous gallium catecholate metal-organic framework

Grigorii Skorupskii et al.

Summary: Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are hybrid materials with high surface areas but generally poor electrical conductivity. Recent research has shown that MOFs with high electrical conductivity have potential applications in energy storage and catalysis. However, there is limited understanding of the role of metal ions in these conductive MOFs.

Oxidative control over the morphology of Cu3(HHTP)2, a 2D conductive metal-organic framework

Kathleen M. Snook et al.

Summary: The morphology of electrically conductive metal-organic frameworks greatly influences their performance in energy storage and electrochemical sensing. This study reveals how partial ligand oxidation influences the morphology of Cu-3(HHTP)(2), a 2D conductive metal-organic framework, and highlights the impact of ligand oxidation on the nucleation and growth of such frameworks.
