Selective oxidation of methane to CO on Ni@BOx via reaction-induced vapor migration of boron-containing species onto Ni

Tongyuan Song et al.

Summary: The well-known Strong Metal-Support Interaction (SMSI) effect is characterized by dynamic migration of support-derived species and subsequent encapsulation of supported metal nanoparticles (NPs). In this study, the occurrence of classical SMSI state in a physical mixture of Ni NPs and porous hexagonal boron nitride powder (Ni|pBN) during methane oxidation reaction was reported. The SMSI state, induced by the vapor migration of boron-containing species from pBN to metal surfaces, can switch the methane oxidation selectivity. High reaction temperature and water product play important roles in this process.

Borosilicate zeolite enriched in defect boron sites boosting the low-temperature oxidative dehydrogenation of propane

Bin Qiu et al.

Summary: In this study, an incompletely crystallized borosilicate zeolite catalyst exhibited extraordinary performance in the oxidative dehydrogenation of propane. The boron species were found to be anchored to the zeolite matrix in the form of open coordination and formed hydrogen bonds with defective boron species, preventing excessive leaching of boron. The active center for catalyzing the reaction was identified as the B-OH groups in aggregated BOx species that formed hydrogen bonds with adjacent Si-OH groups.

Multiple Promotional Effects of Vanadium Oxide on Boron Nitride for Oxidative Dehydrogenation of Propane

Xiao Jiang et al.

Summary: We report a catalyst with vanadium oxide dispersed onto hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN), which catalyzes the oxidative dehydrogenation of propane (ODHP) via the Eley-Rideal mechanism and the Mars-van Krevelen mechanism. The results show that loading 0.5wt% V significantly improves the yield of light alkene. Adding an appropriate concentration of nitric oxide further enhances the catalytic performance. This provides a potential strategy for developing efficient h-BN-based catalysts for ODHP by coupling gas-phase and surface reactions.

Oxidative Strong Metal-Support Interactions between Metals and Inert Boron Nitride

Tongyuan Song et al.

Summary: The study reports the oxidative strong metalsupport interaction (O-SMSI) effect between Pt nanoparticles and inert hexagonal boron nitride sheets, where the oxidized boron overlayer derived from the boron nitride support enhances CO oxidation reaction by working synergistically with surface Pt sites. This effect is also observed in other h-BN-supported metal catalysts and is determined by metal-boron interaction and the oxygen affinity of metals in different oxidative atmospheres.

Tandem In2O3-Pt/Al2O3 catalyst for coupling of propane dehydrogenation to selective H2 combustion

Huan Yan et al.

Summary: The study demonstrated that growing In2O3 over Pt/Al2O3 using atomic layer deposition results in a nanostructure that kinetically couples domains through surface hydrogen atom transfer, improving the selective oxidative dehydrogenation of propane. In contrast, other nanostructures, such as Pt on In2O3 or Pt mixed with In2O3, were unable to organize the reactions effectively, resulting in more propane combustion.

Summary: Isolated boron in a zeolite framework without B-O-B oligomers exhibits high activity and selectivity for oxidative dehydrogenation of propane (ODHP). The boron-silicon bonding structure hinders boron leaching in a humid atmosphere, enhancing catalyst durability. The -B[OH center dot center dot center dot O(H)-Si](2) structure in borosilicate zeolite serves as the active center for activating oxygen and carbon-hydrogen bonds to catalyze ODHP.

Highly Selective Carbon-Supported Boron for Oxidative Dehydrogenation of Propane

Lesli O. Mark et al.

Summary: Bulk boron materials, such as hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN), are highly selective catalysts for the oxidative dehydrogenation of propane. Previous attempts to improve productivity by immobilizing boron on silica led to less selective catalysts. Acid-treated, activated carbon-supported boron (B/OAC) prepared via incipient wetness impregnation exhibits equal propylene selectivity and improved productivity compared to h-BN, with oxidized/hydrolyzed boron clustered on the support surface.
